You must edit your savegame with the FCS. There should be a step by step guide somewhere out in the forums, but I'm on mobile at the moment and can't easily go find and link to it.

Might try looking yourself if you're interested. I believe the topic involved renaming cannibals. Or you can wait around for me to get home, I'll try and find it then.

Here it is. :)

Be sure to backup your savegame, just in case.

1. Open the FCS (duh). Doesn't matter what mods you open or anything, you're not going to edit mod files.

2. Click "Open Any" up along the top.

3. Find your savegame in the "save" folder.

4. Find and open your squad's platoon file in the "platoon" folder. It's "Nameless_0.platoon" by default, but can be different if you've renamed your squad.

5. Inside you should find each of your characters listed twice, along with a ton of entries named "0". Rename both entries for the character you want to rename.

6. This one is a bit more complicated. You'll also need to change the name listed in one of the many entries named "0". Easiest way to find the right one is to click on "changes" up at the top. This will list all the entries and what they are. The one you're looking for is a "GAMESTATE_CHARACTER" type, so just look through all of them till you find it. It'll have the character's name in there, so it shouldn't be hard to find the right one. Just tedious if you have a lot of characters.

7. Save the file.

8. Load up your save in the game and enjoy your character's new name.

Thanks man! It was a bit annoying having all my cattle named "Domesticated Bull", Pack bull or not.

Maybe some things changed since the guide was made, but here is how my experience differed a bit.

It's "Nameless_0.platoon" by default, but can be different if you've renamed your squad.

For me it's Nameless_0.platoon regardless whether I renamed my squad. There is a .platoon file for my named squad, but it only contains a single 0.

Inside you should find each of your characters listed twice, along with a ton of entries named "0". Rename both entries for the character you want to rename.

Each character is listed only once.

Also for me the savegames are located in C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\kenshi\save
not in the Steam folder.

But thanks for the guide!

Yeah, some things have changed behind the scenes now with how the data is structured. It's still mostly the same though.

The platoon file name is based on the name of your faction at the time it was created. So your first squad will always be Nameless_0, unless you've deleted it before. But other squads may be anything else you've named your faction before.

And yeah, the character names are now only listed once in the data, and saves have since been moved.

I once had "Bonedog" and then "Dog" and then.... I forget I finally gave one a real name.

I've never been anywhere near motivated enough to go track down their files and rename them that way!
