Kenshi
The Hardest Enemy
Weeping Jesus on the cross, your own characters' AI is the hardest enemy in the game. The AI alone makes this the hardest game I've ever played. That's saying a lot considering I play Escape From Tarkov solo.

If you select everyone and then right click somewhere, they will each and everyone of them calculate a separate route to the destination, which makes them run all over the place. Instead, make everyone follow a single guy, and make that guy lead.

It's more the combat AI that's grating on my nerves, especially ranged units. They have no trigger discipline and need a higher degree of management or you get fratricide incidences.

Can't help you with that, I myself shoot off my own guys limbs frequently.

Combat is tricky in Kenshi, mostly due to its semi wonkiness. One thing I noticed is that at least in the begining it was always worth it to Hire mercs, even for small trips theyd always pay for themselves within the first encounter of enemies with either lootable gear from them or their enemies.

As far as actual fights themselves go when your a low level character theres gonna be lots of micro unfortunately, at least if you wanna game the system. The way I usually engage combat is having 2-3 guys as heavily armored as I can with defense boosting weapons set to Taunt, send in those guys first and make sure the mercs are assigned to one of em, then place your damage dealers spread out around the ongoing combat.

The number 1 thing you wanna avoid is bunching up, as especially in vanilla combat a single unit can take out a whole group easily due to the single combat slot function (Meaning only 1 character can attack at a time, each other having to wait for the first ones strike to hit or miss before they can engage.

As far as crossbowers and harpoonists goes, those are just a neverending source of anger for me. Even the highest skilled archers in my army regularly shoot their own guys, often leading to unconciousness, limb loss or even death. I did some testing and the only reliable way i found to stop friendly fire from insta killing my own guys because some harpoonist decided tho shoot an enemy at the gate and the harpoon managed to magically phase throu a several inch think steel gate to hit one of my workers in the head, instantly killing him is to go into the games editor, open your save file and increase the friendly fire skill to aboiut 550, 552 is pretty much the max at woich point they will never again shoot your own guys. They wont always hit enemies still but at least the amount of blue on blue is reduced to 0

this is intended by the Dev.
if you notice the training tip. its shoot your own people for the highest XP gain.
you have to micro place them so they don't shoot each other in the back.

nah just shoot others in the back and your guys get skilled in not fire your guys in the back anymore. the trigger discipline he is talking about exists but needs to be skilled
I know how to manage the AI. It just gets so tedious having to constantly hold its hand.
