Not beyond your own recruits, no. You can leave it open to the public and if you're close enough to roads or another town you might get people wandering in and staying for a while, but that's the best you can hope for.

I've set up just slightly northwest of Hub and left it public before. Got a half dozen people pretty much permanently wandering around my little outpost, including Shinobi assassins and others. Useful too, as they'll often help defend.

You can also download the 'Take Over The World' mod and simply steal other people's settlements to use as your own.

Theres a mod that lets you take over a town, the scripting works that npc's will show up based on the size and live there but outside of that you only get people passing through.

Hi =)

In my new game, I have a base in Vain with all buildings set to public/doors open, and no walls. It does feel like a little city sometimes, and I like that.

At any one time, I have the following patrolling the larger area and roaming the base:
Outlaws, Nomads, Hungry Bandits, Western Hive, Tech Hunters, Wandering Assassins (Shinobi), Garru, Goats, Wild Bulls, Gorillos, Beak Things, & also rarely Holy Nation Outlaws. For now, the Holy Nation pays their weekly visit, and then skirt the perimeter of the base when leaving; also, because we haven't dealt with them yet, we also have Black Dragon Ninja and Dust Bandit raids every now and then.

I think there's no way to get my base to have the large city icon on the map unless I build walls, but I'm okay with that =)

This is my first playthrough using a shop counter as well. I don't want to add an economy mod, but I thought it would be nice to bring visitors:

I put 200 gohan, 200 adv. splint kits, and 200 adv. first aid kits in the counter, as this is what we make/use. It seems these may be a bit too pricey for the shoppers unless their cats are refreshed, so now I've added basic splint kits too; i'm considering making rice bowls and cooked veg to add.

I wonder if creating drink/hash would bring in different visitors, or if it would be the same customers buying additional items (without adding a mod).

Visitors add to the fun =):cactusrum:

The closest you get is to find some wandering groups that will agree to live in your town for a while. All they do is wander around though.

Yeah, I was thinking this. I saw a mod once that enabled recruiting mercs and such to your base for like 5000 days worth of time, rather than the vanilla amounts. You could probably do this and recruit a whole bunch of mercs to guard your outpost, and it would simulate a thriving town somewhat...but all they do is walk around, building to building, they don't sit down or buy food or anything, unfortunately.

You could KO them and dress them up in more civilian appropriate clothing I guess if you really wanted to role play having a living city too.

Really wish you could build up a town and then define individual buildings as what they are, like you see in other vanilla based towns. Especially if it had Prison Architect type rules where you require a certain number of beds, shelves, tables, chairs etc inside the building before you can designate them stuff like shops, luxury housing, bars, etc. Then once you do that people would slowly arrive in your town and populate it, pay rent, etc.

I guess maybe that's not what Kenshi is about, but it'd be a cool end goal. Especially if you could influence what type of NPCs showed up in your town I.E if you were building a ninja clan hideout in the mountains, you'd only want ninja themed NPCs showing up, right?

Maybe Kenshi 2 will have it, or support a mod that does :greenrollball:
