but plenty of others that foster some of the same aspects to a degree.
can't think of anything more similar to kenshi in that aspect.

No base building and it is a tactical turn-based game though.
Both games do have TONS of amazing mods. Rimworld has a few that open up the exploring side of things.
I think that's why so many people are super-excited about Kenshi 2- because there really isn't much out there that gives you the options of Kenshi.
I'd agree that Mount and Blade is a really cool game- also has lots of super neat mods, but as mentioned the town-building side of it isn't really there. What M&B does well is army building, trade, and the interactions of the different factions.
If anyone can think of something similar to Kenshi in terms of having most/all of it's systems- I'd be thrilled to learn about it too.
If you like building a squad from nothing and suffering until they become something, then you might like games like XCOM and Battle Brothers and Stellar Tactics, even Star Crawlers etc, but those are turn based games. The only other game I can think off off-hand that is similar to Kenshi is Mount and Blade, going from nothing, building up your squad and clan, eventually becoming strong, etc.
Kenshi is the only game where losing isn't only fun but it's a part of the progression though, and rewards you with stat growth, I think. Most games penalise you with no benefits when you die / fail. Unless the story and survival during dire circumstances is your reward, I dunno.
