Kenshi

Can Kenshi be considered a financial success game ?
Im just curious because the developer really deserve it, sales statistics from steamspy says 200 000. Thats a lot, 4 million dollars ( 20x200 000 ). This also does not include early owners who bought from other platforms

I would totally say so!
And a well deserved one:-)
Judging by how development went,he never got hooked by important investors if any at all,for many years he worked alone and then 6/4 people.
My own speculation is that not having a bank on his neck, allowed him to make the game he wanted and RELEASE IT at the right time.

Many games nowadays are prematurely released and the pattern is always the same.

In my business i did it,I preferred to be small but free from bonds...it os slowly paying off:-)

For Chris there is another sweet plus, because of his honest and passionate attitude, most of his playerbase will blindly buy his next game (i will surely do pre-order for the first time)...so he can count on a certain budget as a safe ground:-)

Once again...success he totally deserved!

There is still a lot of money in kenshi. Mostly in the lore of it now. I hope they sell the rights to this and make huge, well deserved, bank.

I'd buy DLC on this game. Mount, new playable race, new weapon animation, New map accross the sea, don't care about the content, this game deserve my money more than other game I bought..
successful enough for him to make new games after he finishes kenshi.
which is his plans, he has hinted already he has ideas for his next game, but is withholding what he plans are until after kenshi is released.

The main deal here, apart from the money, is that he gained the trust of the community, pure gold nowadays.

The Dev mentioned least 3 ideas for games not including a possible kenshi 1.5 expansion.

It also doesn't include Steam's cut and how many of those were purchased at sales or discounted prices. I think the lumb total going to development would be closer to half of that total.

An indie game like this, developed by mainly one ore a few persons, can be called successful even at 100k copies sold, and this one is not even officially released yet. I had a lot of fun playing it so far, and I think it deserves every success. Waiting for the full release. If it gets good reviews I think it can sell very well, a lot of people are tired of todays dumbed down games, and wanting some unique and deep experience just like this game.

It would be best/smart of him to remake Kenshi with a bunch of new things on a different game engine. He certainly has the funds for that now it seems and also the trust of the community surrounding Kenshi.
we will find out what he plans after the release of the game. and im sure a small vacation.

I think I remember him mentioning how easier it as gotten with Unity and stuff this days. Between everything he learned, and the new tools, he can certainly make something with that :)

I don't expect a Kenshi 2, at least not now. I mean, he worked sorever on the game, I wouldn't be suprised he want to do something else, even though he may come back later.

I hope so, because that leaves the chance for a another kenshi in the future.

maybe a prequel with similar mechanics but set up in the undestroyed world before or at the beginning of the apocalypse.
