Best place to set up shop?
Im pretty sure that green area around bad teeth is the best for farming, but I 3/4 of my team are nonhumans, and I also have to deal with "prayer day" every two days. Trying to grow greenfruit and make an army of slaves to go with it.

just have to deal with the occasional cannibal raids and leviathans trying to peek over your walls, and some times a few gutters.
lots of meat from roaming Garus as well.

It's a good spot. Have settled there, and just east of the ruins east of there, across the lake. Plenty of opportunity for combat training, good fertility, access to ores and stone. Water is no problem, and I usually fire up hemp biofueled generators. If you don't mind being way out to heck and gone from towns, it's rather nice.

Build up and then destroy the HN first, then they will be Shek or UC cities.
I love that Leviathan Coast spot, but it's so far out in the boonies that I eventually left it for somewhere closer to the city

does not work with small groups.

It depends on squad's stats. The only hostiles I see roaming around on Leviathan coast are the beak things. Leviathans can turn hostile if you got too close but if you move away, they will leave you alone and they move very slow. 5 strong characters carrying falling sun could deal with hordes of beak things. Sometimes I use ruins in Leviathan coast for resting, place sleeping bags inside to heal if need to. When you find a spot in places like Leviathan coast or Gut where beak things are, it best to start with building stationhouse to build up storages then move your squad inside and build Y house as powerhouse for batteries, generators, biofuel, etc with small windmills on the roof then build harpoon turrets on roof of stationhouse to keep beak things away. You could build crossbow turret insteads but I prefer harpoons. Then build large windmills and it would get easier after you build walls. I prefer to finish all researches in city to max before I start a place to build. Wall and gates cannot be upgraded, it'd be hassle to tear down low end walls to replace better walls every time.

You can in fact upgrade walls, but not from base tier walls to the next level I think - so you can't upgrade level 1 walls, but the walls you can walk on you most certainly can upgrade.

How does one destroy the HN?

Once you take out the named HN bosses and overrun the cities to an extent, the cities/posts will change control to Shek or UC.

I enjoy putting my base on the Iron Trail Island. Good farming, copper and iron, decent armor + paladin's cross or long cleaver makes mince meat of the spiders there, and there's no roaming squads to bother you. Only really hassle is distance to another city to trade but World's End isn't 'too' far away, maybe a day or two's travel. Neither is Mongrel if you need some more exotic stuff and can handle the fogmen.
