Their territory is somewhat crescent shaped and non-contiguous. They have cities in the North East, South East and South West. Catun is their capital and it's in the South East and it bridges the two areas

I wouldn't say that, considering the Emperor is elsewhere...

Well, Catun being the capital was the original lore for the city and also why money is called "Cats".
The Devs have changed things around, so they may no longer see it that way.
I'm guessing because of how the map was released in sections and Catun getting released last, they may have wanted the Emperor in sooner.

Yeah, no evidence of Catun being the capital. There were a few indicators back before the NE opened up, but they turned out false.

As for how the SW is connected. Well, there is evidence suggesting at least former land routes. World seems more dangerous now though, so they are no longer in use much, if at all.

Naval connection is likely, as there is dialog to suggest the UC ships in supplies using their ports in the NE. Only location I can imagine importing from is the SW. Would also explain the presence of pirates on the east coast.
man before this is done i really hope they put in more lore

Shame there is no ships in game, even in static variant (exept old wrecks).

Land route is generaly "weak" only between Brink and Flats Lagoon (ruins of Waystation and Free settelment) suggest that once it was more stable. Also empire currently in rather bad shape after food crisis/war losses with HN/revolts and rebel problems, so today infrastucture not whole picture.

I think the United Cities were originally the dominant power/faction on the map but they've been fractured/weakened by war with an assurgent Holy Nation.
so the idea is that the holy nation was originally apart of the united cities but then started a rebellion and eventually became a dominat power on the map

I don't think that's the case. Cause the current Pheonix is the 112th or something?

62nd actually, but yeah, way too many for it to have been UC based. They likely are from the time of the Second Empire. As there are mentions of some "cultists" having a bit of a revolt or something during their time.
they should make the south west UC cities into the dead cat faction bring them back again Q.Q

yeah its freaking weird, if you looked at the logistics, clownsteady and drifters last are by themselves. Catun is too far from clownsteady. Mourn and flats lagoon are tech hunter bases thus catun is pretty much open to attack from wildlife. Brink is close enough to heng but far away in terms of reinforcements. WTF happened to the UC? How did corruption caused the UC to have towns in one place and then another far far away?

Im hoping someone makes a mod to add a town between catun and clownsteady and then rebuild the two abandoned towns closest to drifters last for extra details.

For brink, add another station or village between brink and heng for both communications and trade in terms of rotation of forces and supplies

Think of it like a colony. The UC have those two ports in the NE afterall.

If i could, i would've changed those two abandoned towns south west of the map near drifters last into bustling UC ports of both commerce and wealth. Sadly you cant override existing towns and change their names.
