Kenshi
Gates and walls = worthless
Enemies either just magically walk through them or wait until your fighters are leaving so that they can zoom inside (past all your leaving fighters) and make a beeline for some defenseless sap mining rocks. It's compounded by the fact that high level enemies are basically immortal. They don't bleed to death, and they heal even if you loot their medkits. Literally the only way I've found of killing paladins and the various shek raiders is locking them in cages until they starve.

Kral's chosen are by far the worst offenders. I have no idea how these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ get into my base. I'm halfway across the map looking for engineering research and all of a sudden my farmers are under attack by half a dozen chosen who are inside my base despite all the doors being locked and closed. In my case three consecutive tier 2 gates.

Also, in a hilarious twist, the shek warriors are friendly to me after I patched a few of their guys up. DESPITE THIS, they still hack down my already ineffective gates just so they can run inside my base and loiter around aimlessly before leaving again.

Is there a mod that fixes this? Am I placing my gates wrong? What to do?

Have you tried rebuilding navmesh with Ctrl + Alt + F11 first? That may help with NPCS walking through your walls.

Gates and walls are pretty janky. There are a couple mods that add 10-16x health in the workshop that makes them better. Alternatively you can make a kill box by having two gates and a small walled off area between them like an airlock but, unless it's been patched, it's a little cheezy because the ai can't figure out how to deal with it. I'll agree that gates are really obnoxious though and everyone and their mum takes offense to your gate and knocks it down just because. I think it's patched now but a few months ago I'd have slavers break down my main gate (while not aggressive to me), run through my base, break down my fight club gate, and then enslave my training bandits.

Gates have always been worthless. Walls are only useful for funneling enemies to where you want to fight them.

Never had trouble with my walls.

And since I got my double harpoons + mkII crossbows set up haven't had a gate breach before the attackers get gunned down.

Here's two things you can try.

1. Open the menu with shift+f12. Then go to town placement.

Select your town, I think it might always be called "Your Outpost". Move the center of your town (the statue figure), outside your walls, still making sure that all your buildings etc are within the town radius, wihch should be visible around the statue.

This way, events will trigger outside your walls, and they won't get stuck or try and circumvent your walls.

2. Open the same menu.

Open the road menu, and make the roads visible. If there are roads going through your base, this means that if you open the gates, roaming squads will try and get in, and might just roam around your base etc.

Move the roads outside of your base, and this should help with all kinds of intruders.

Also, if you have engineers at the ready, they will try and repair the gates when they are being attacked, whilst maybe your turreteers will try and shoot the invaders.

Personally, I don't have gates right now, I just have a long funnel that enemies must walk through to get it, and turrets on the ground level shooting at them if needed.

they are not worthless but they are not going to give you a safe space. They do but out at times hence the words Early Access meaning not sure why you would think the game is in a finished state. They are meant to help funnel the enemy or create choke points not a Gandalf YOU SHALL NOT PASS moment.

They don't funnel anything becuase enemies walk through them and spawn inside of them. Again, I'm not getting raided, (although back to back raids are also a massive pain in the ass) I'm having lone enemies like chosen and berserkers phase through my walls when I'm out exploring and kill my farmers and miners.

I finally got all the jobs and whatnot figured out to the point that my base should be self-suficient, but instead it produces nothing becuase all my laborers keep getting randomly dismembered by wandering mobs before I can do anything about it.

I tried regenerating the navmesh, but it didn't seem to do much, enemies still teleport in with annoying regularity. I also took Aurane's advice and checked out the position of the outpost marker statue, but it was smack dab in the middle of my base so I don't think that has anything to do with it.

I think I'm just going to move my base to the border zone. My laborers can handle a few starving bandits slipping through the cracks.

The point of moving the statue was to put it outside the walls for raids, so they trigger there, and so that the enemy won't get stuck outside, but if raids aren't the problem then it's elsewhere.

I once had a base over at the shrieking forest (I went there, it looked like a nice place, didn't notice any shriekers until I had actually travelled there with my whole group. I guess that's how the north of europe was colonized, people came here during the summer and figured it was lovely place, until winter set in lol), and they kept getting through my walls because my walls were spanning a massive area.

What type of walls do you have? In my bases in the newest builds I've tried the makeshift wall, and the first defensive walls. I had a problem with the enemy attacking my gate, and then destroying a part of the wall next to the gate, and then getting in that way. This is why I changed to the funnel solution.

In the first defensive gate solution, I had a lot of my guys being engineers, so when someone began bashing the walls down, a lot of my guys would run to the gate to fix it, and it would slow the enemy down almost to a halt. With the turrets I was able to keep them out. But this wasn't optimal I agree, since once they got in, depending on the base size, it didn't matter whether I had the walls or not.
make a bug report and zip up and upload your save folders with the issues so the Dev can look over them.

Here's a particularly egregious example. Trader column marching straight through a wall.

Where should I send my save for the bug report?

post it in the bug reporting forum.

The problem is that you have multiple gates and walls. That has always been buggy in kenshi. It's stupid and it shouldn't be, but that's how it is. Just use 1 (preferably high lvl) gate with a couple of crossbows aimed at it. If you absolutely have to use multiple, make sure that the outer most one is the last one you place, that has helped me in the past, but sooner or later it will likely still bug after reloading or whatever.

Steps:
1) Have one gate
2) Channel your walls inward at that gate point to look like \_/
3) Set up revolving harpoon guns along the walls on the sides
4) Keep your gate locked unless you need to get out
5) Wait for things to angrily show up, then mow them down as they try to get in
6) collect loot

Gates and walls are crucial. Gates are more effective against animals in keeping them out of your city/town. Otherwise, they're just a temporary barrier that should hold up long enough for 4-6 rotating turrets to obliterate anything coming through.

How can I upgrade walls and gate? Now I have walls tear ll. How can I get tear 3,4 walls?
My research bench is level4. But there is no technology for walls upgrade.
