so my whole pc is freezing when i try to recruit new team member - also i noticed that he have his horns cut off but they somehow spawn back when i click "randomize" while recruiting him (game crashes EXACTLY AFTER CLICKING continue button - can't do anything, even alt f4 does not help - i have to restart whole pc after this)

simplified pc specs:

RX 560 4 GB
16 GB ram ddr4
240 gb ssd on which game is installed

system is Windows 10 PRO - everything is up to date

Is this when you recruit a normal recruitable or when you recruit someone through the prisoner mod? I ask because the prisoner mod uses JOIN_SQUAD_WITH_EDITS which does more to the joining NPC.

the only reason i had pc freezes with games was due to a faulty power supply and maybe just dirty / loose wires but i replaced it and boom no more freezes

I've had some very high perf impacts with the actual task that it does when it adds a member to your party. That's in the actual code, so not a lot can be done without profilng it.

Well when that happens open the task manager and try to end the process, since you said you can still open apps. Next if that doesn't work, restart steam in offline mode which should close any steam game when steam restarts.

There are files called editor limits which are assigned to each playable race that allow you to edit the race's appearance. It sounds like you have one or more corrupted editor limits file. Try revalidating your data. If that doesn't work, right click on the game in your library, click properties, then look for browse local files. This will open a window showing the game's files. Next open the folder called Data and look for a folder called editor. Delete that folder. Then revalidate your files and it will download the editor files again. Then see if it works.

Also, it's possible that there's a mod conflict if you use mods.

Do you play stable or experimental? If it's the second, try switching to the first though your save game might act funny if you don't do an import after switching to stable.

Well try the editor limit corrupted file fix I suggested. If that doesn't work we'll try something else.

This happens to me as well, but only if I change the body of the recruit. I can change the hair and name, but if I change anything else the game locks.

If only the game freezes but stays on top and prevents you from showing your dekstop ( "Windows key + D" ) or task manager ( "ctrl+shift+esc" ) then maybe the following may help, assuming you are running Windows 10.

Press "Windows Key + Tab" and create a new desktop using the plus sign at the bottom right. You should now be able to open your task manager in the new desktop environment and kill the application.

However if your task manager is still on desktop 1 behind the frozen application you need to press "WinKey + Tab" again to switch to desktop 1 (by clicking the icon at the bottom of your screen). Now press " WinKey + tab" again and drag & drop your task manager window onto desktop 2 at the bottom. Now switch back to Desktop 2 and you are able to access the task manager.

hopefully this helps so you don't need to reboot your PC every time :)
