Different towns have different prices when you start a game. You can cheese it and import a save to change the prices, but that's no fun. But the money comes from trade culture price boosts and penalties. Like in the swamp you can buy hashish and sake for cheap, and then in the UC territories sell them for big profit. Like in UC territories, hashish technically sells for 1,100% it's normal price, but typically you'd be selling it to shinobe thieves fences for half that. Sake is legal I think though, though the profit is lower. The swamp sells those for a reduced price. Also hemp, but given it's size in your inventory you'd be able to hold less of it.

Trade goods have a price percentage on them. They vary every game, but generally longer distances means larger price changes. You kind of have to scout things out a bit and get an idea of prices to find a profitable route, though. You can make good money smuggling, but you can also find two distant cities with vastly different standard trade good prices. It's random though, so you may or may not find a good route in a given game. As an example, in the game I was playing a trader I found a city selling chainmail for 80% and steel for 90% and buying robotics kits for 119% and a city selling robotics kits for 83% and buying chainmail for 120% and steel for 118%.

Ive scouted between The Hub, Hive village and Squinn but price % remains the same

That's odd. What trade goods are you trying to buy and sell?

The Hub and Squin aren't that far apart and are in the same area. I'm not familiar with Hive territory yet.

Actually, the hub and the lone shack down the road should have different prices. You can do a mini trade route between the 2,

Lol that shack in my game is abandoned. It wasn't always but for some reason when I tried to come to their aid against some bandits (thought I could gain some rep with the trade ninjas) the guards turned on me. They're OP so I kited them back to the thieves in Hub to deal with. I thought the barman would get new guards but he never did. One day I go to trade there and the barman is gone. I assume he was killed by bandits or hauled off by the slavers. So I looted the crap outta the place and now it's just scenery.

I love this game.

That shack has a weird bug where sometimes the NPCs are not there.

You used to be able to trade. I used to run this route:
Blister Hill
Stack
Lone Shack
Hive
Hub
Squin
Waystation
Admag
Hive

Something changed a about when crossbows came out that evened out the values so much that it is like you said mostly a loss or not enough profit worth doing.

I just made a mod that adjusts trade prices to make trading certain items more profitable. For instance, Skek kingdom buys water and water jugs for 50% more while Holy Farms sell crops for cheaper. There's a lot of changes and I'll add more depending on feedback.

I also added a merchant to The Hub that sells hunting crossbows that have bonus damage against certain animals. The idea there is the ability to defend against wildlife as you travel around carrying your goods. Like I made animal hides cheaper in the hive villages if I remember right, or if I don't remember right I'll make that change later, so you might be going over there more often.
