How does stealth XP gain percent actually work?
I've never seen it go above 20% before, and now that my person has ~35 stealth, it seems to be solidly at 0% no matter what I do. Is this explained anywhere?

All XP gain is set at a 20 or 25 lvl difference before hitting a 0 times multiplier, if I'm not mistaken. The actual numbers are all on the FCS under Global Settings or Global Effects? It's one of the tabs on the top portion of the editor.

That basically means if you're trying to stealth around people 20-25 levels under your level you won't get any xp or very little xp. At least this is how it works for leveling up your combat skills, I don't see how stealth would be any different since you get XP off of sneaking around people/animals.

But... what do the people oppose your stealh with? Perception isn't active, right?

It might base the level differences on combat stats since it would be unreasonable that stealth levels up off of your enemies stealth. So if your characters are lvl 45-50 in melee and defense and you're stealthed around characters in the 20-25 level range, your stealth won't level up.

I'm stealthing around blister hill guards though, i'm pretty sure they're above that in stat.

Also the FCS globals help info says that the XP gain is never supposed to go under 10%, which is apparently not true o.o.

More than likely it doesn't oppose any skill from the enemy. I've even heard mention of it giving XP when absolutely nobody is around. I wouldn't be surprised if it just increases through use, much like athletics or something. Not taking the enemy into account at all.

As for what the bonus is though... I have no idea. I never even noticed it mentioned anywhere before.

can you just stand somewhere close to NPC's and use sneak to gain levels or do you have to move around or pick locked doors?
Weaver Jun 16, 2017 @ 3:57pm
I think you need to be moving. Picking doors is Theivery skill though.
Shidan Jun 16, 2017 @ 4:21pm
Pretty sure you don't need to move. Someone on Discord mentioned they were gaining XP by jsut locking themselves in a shack and standing there. Or something like that. It has been a little while now.

Put enemy in cage. Get backpack full of food. Go behind cage and activate stealth. Come back a few weeks later and dude will be in the 80s

or just go to the black dragon clan tower, stealth on the stairs of the first floor on speed 3 and come back in about an hour for 100 stealth.

there's about 20 guys constantly coming and going and it seems to shot your stealth through the roof.

Or train on the assassination dummies if your assassination skill is low.. 2 birds 1 stone kinda thing. I personally found it went up quicker this way as to opposed to just standing around

For me back in the 0.93 series when I was leveling Hatsune and the others, I had to be moving. If they were standing still, even in a room full of people, it would not increase.

Be advised, this may have changed in the .95 series.

Since most of my people are very high steath, I'll have to hire a new character to test it, but I'll test it and give you screenshots if you'd like.

I just tested how stealth works with the Retired Captain start in The Hub.

- Stealthing without moving and no one was around resulted in zero XP gain.
- Stealthing while moving and no one was around resulted in zero XP gain.

- Stealthing without moving while in The Hub bar resulted in zero XP gain.
- Stealthing while moving in the The Hub bar resulted in XP gain, even while detected by the bars attendees.

I conducted the same test I did in the bar in the Shinobi Thieves tower since some of them move up and down the stairs. The results were the same.

So you pretty much have to be in stealth and moving while near people or animals, regardless of whether or not they see you. I'm unsure if there is an XP bonus if you're hidden from them or if it's a steady rate between being detected and remaining undetected.

Same results, except with a "Nobody" I just hired, also in Hub.

I think you'd gain more from failing, since that is how everything else works in game, but I don't have the data for that.

Assassination DEFINATELY works that way though, you fail to KO you get a much larger boost than if you drop the guy.
