I don't thik there are currently any "perfect" spots. my current base is in the Stenn Desert...great for most resources so long as you don't mind periodically starving.

its got decent water, iron , and copper has everything for the sake of productivity..but i usually have to trade with the travelling merchant that comes through from time to time and sell him weapons in exchange for...well all of his food.

but its got a few cities near by that you can trade with too. mostly Shek towns, an hiver villages. the river also allows for hunting beak things which is a good source for extra food, an leather.

it doesn't have many enemies though periodically a Shek Fighter or the Kral's chosen will come through an pick a fight. usually i toss them in cells an make them starve to death. or i recruit them.

but its relatively safe an peaceful the only issue is food as mentioned above but thats easily solveable.

I have a location in the border zone where I have set up. Its in a Pass through some mountians. Its Southeast of the Eastern most Hiver village.

I haven't discovered the whole map yet. I only have discovered holy nation lands

If you don't mind the holy mysogynists, this is a decent place: https://wvr.blue/i/2016/11/08/Usmf.jpg (the image was a 'you were at one end of the arrow, i clicked on the other end of the arrow, how did you get here?' problem)

So far i've only really had to deal with Swamp Raptors and Blood Spiders, rarely some Swamp Ninjas
Nemund Nov 19, 2016 @ 1:13am
I'm in a fun spot on the N edge of the swamp right where the biome changes from arid to swamp, so I can grow both crops (I wonder if you looked around if you could find all three biomes touching.). Downside is swarms of raptors at the gates. And demn swamp raptors are vicious. Though if you have a tough combat team would be fine, I started it with 3 guys with straight 1 stats other than labour from mining iron though, that was rough.

Hiver are the best to make a small camp near, they buy all my stolen loot. When things get out of hand you can retreat to the hive, they usually help. I like the hive near borderlands in the vain , but the valley hives are alright too . Just mind the beakmosters they have a huge los and dont seem to get bored of chasing poor hapless workers.

I built on the cliff south of the western hive villages. Close to numerous city for trade, at the border between arid and windy biome (border zone) and the swamp-green Vain. Copper at 40%, iron at 100%, 100% stone and all farm. Water is only 40% though, but it's not a big deal.

Thanks everyone i found a nice area to make a base. I only experienced a battle once and a few stray dogs just wandering in. also in the area theres great amount of iron, and 50 of copper mattering on position, in general just great except no carbon. also great amount of room to build. its in the okrans gulf near the white area the bottom right corner if anyone is interested. i will still use ur suggestions to make more bases if possible, in the areas u guys mentioned

Carbon hasn't been added as a resource map yet I believe, I can't think of anything that uses it yet either.

1 moon. The big one is a planet, going off its picture (it's a picture of Mars). So I guess that makes Kenshi's planet actually a moon. Or a binary system. ;)

Plot Twist , we're actually on pluto 10,000 years before earth was inhabited!(probably close to 10 billion years but still!)

As far as base locations go, I'll just repost my old post of where I'm currently hanging out. Will probably move elsewhere soon though, just to be closer to the current available map borders.

It could be better but my current base ain't too shabby, based on my fairly limited experience with Kenshi so far anyhow.

It got a slew of towns not too far from it to trade with, for starters. And not being in the smack-middle of Holy Nation territory does mean it is a bit easier on Non-Human races. I have no idea how much time have passed since I settled here, be it real time hours or ingame days, but a fair amount of time I'd say.

So far I've only ever had 1 Holy Nation Trader pass by, some Starving Bandits and Slavers coming from west and heading north at the bend, some Dust Bandits coming from south and heading north. Oh and a slew of Hiver Drones coming to work my crops, campfires, workstations, and what have you. Very nice of them.

Within the main holdings there is a mixture of resources to be found. Two 100% Copper Veins, for instance. But also an interesting mix of agricultural options, even if none are stellar:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=784503813
The Swamp portion have less than ideal Fertility and awful Water, but it certainly could be worse for some of the crops:
Hemp gets 90% Crop Yield, 90%~ Growth Rate, and 40%~ Efficiency.
Wheat gets 75% Crop Yield, 85%~ Growth Rate, 40%~ Efficiency.
Vegetables gets 50% Crop Yield, 85%~ Growth Rate, 40%~ Efficiency.
Riceweed gets 20% Crop Yield, 85%~ Growth Rate, 35%~ Efficiency.
Cotton gets 50% Crop Yield, 85%~ Growth Rate, and probably around 35-40% Efficiency.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=784503824
Meanwhile right atop the small incline, Water is decently available but not great, and it ain't bad for certain crops either!
Wheat gets 60% Crop Yield, 100% Growth Rate, and 100%~ Efficiency.
Cactus gets 100% Crop Yield, 100% Growth Rate, and 100%~ Efficiency.
Hemp gets 50% Crop Yield, and probably decent Growth Rate/Efficiency.
Vegetables, Rice, and Cotton gets 10% or less Crop Yield here so likely not worth it.

That, as inspecting the two images can tell, the Arid area got decent wind generation potential.

What about Stone and Iron? Well, it doesn't have that in the main hub, unfortunately.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=784509485
Which is why I had to make an industrial hub for the sake of those two particular resources!
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=784510027
Good enough I think. Contains one 100% Quality/150% Efficiency Iron Vein in that particular hub, but there are a bunch more nearby. And each of those three Ore Drills have 90+ Quality each too.

Only problem is the whole split-base thing, and I was leery about connecting them together due to there being a road inbetween the industrial and the main hubs.

The location ain't the best in many regards, and it is certainly a far way from locations such as the Floodlands and World's End. But hey, it ain't under close watch from the Holy Nation either, and once the southern swamp region is unlocked it will be pretty close for me.

Not sure what else might be of note to know about this base location, but this garble of text will be useful to someone.
