I am not sure. It doesn't say. It just crashed now every 10 minutes or less no matter what I do. I could just sit there with the game on pause and it will still crash.
I am running two mods, btw. 256 max recruit, and make prisoners slaves mod.
things like unplugging hardware or HDMI will crash it for me or messing around on firefox
Every ten minutes?
That's the interval for the auto-save feature, I think.
Check your anti-virus software and make sure your system isn't prohibiting the game from accessing the files it needs to auto-save, perhaps?
PS - And, if you have mods... Well, then it could be just about anything a mod could reasonably touch. No crash patterns like that at all for me. Also - Check your Windows Event Log to see if there are any clues.
I used to not have any issues either, even after adding those mods. But just lately it started doing it. It crashed on me, which usually only happens once every few hours or less, and then when I reloaded the autosave it keeps crashing. Could it be the autosave that occurred from the crash that causes it to keep happening? It will autosave a new while I am playing, but maybe that autosave is also bugged since it came from the autosave that crashed initially.
Does the game create an autosave if it crashes, because there seems to be one at the same time of the crash each time? That might have something to do with it also. It does seem to happen just after an autosave.
Ok, so it is definitely happening now each time a save occurs. Not just the autosave but when I manually save, the game also crashes.. Any ideas of what it might be or how to fix it?
TL/DR
I had all sorts of weird crap happening in the game before importing, seems the longer in you are the more likely things go t!ts up.
I just found a nice spot to build the first outpost in that playthrough but took me days trying to get turrets to stay where they were - no luck, kept disappearing or being unassigned.
Once imported (after rebuilding the wall 6 times!) all but 1 of the 12 turrets on the offending wall have now decided to play ball along with no crashing. Seto has finally shown his face on the world & most things seem fine......so far
I say most, Seto & his Wrath of God raid has been trying to raid me in Stobes Gamble for the last 19 days...19 days walking around in circles as they can't locate me!! lol.
I actually ran to greet them & not one of them battered an eyelid so I followed them around for a while watching them get attacked along with the skeleton beam kick their butts hehe, but still they are walking around. Gonna have to send my guys out to paste them I guess.
And I had a crab raid just before finishing last night where I killed the NPC's before they got to my gate, the crabs stayed down the slope before my base so I went & killed all them. Neither the "raid has arrived" or "raid was defeated" notification came up. Despite all of the raid now being burnt in the corpse furnace the faction tab still says there's a crap raid....along with the 17 day old Wrath of God raid...oh, and my poor Shek allies are now homesick too as their protecting contract expired weeks ago ;D
Re-Start STEAM!
90% of ALL my issues go away, if I simply, save my game, shut it down(ish), and shut-down STEAM, and re-start it.
I spent a week making Voodoo dolls of the devs and every reviewer I watched...only to discover that STEAM was BORKING my game!
Might not be the fix for you but it's worth pointing out.
It's frustrating.
