Kenshi
Bone Wolf infinite attack/stagger loop
I just lost an entire small fort to a single bone wolf.

It showed up outside my gate so I sent one of my five guys to go kill it for meat, and next I look back he's unconscious, and this guy was my main Shek fighter. So I send another and watch as he gets caught in an endless loop of rapid attacks, being in the middle of a stagger when he gets hit, which causes another stagger, ad infinitum until he KOs.

This single wolf wiped out every person I sent to kill it because everyone got stuck in the attack animation. I only ever actually hit the wolf twice (with any of them).

Why would the wolf attack so quickly you can't even fight back? At least human enemies have reasonable attack durations and are somewhat fun to fight. If wolves are supposed to be OP, this isn't a fun way of showing it.

If they're supposed to be weaker, why can they lock my guys in an infinite stagger loop and kill them easily?

It happens with spiders too. You gotta see when blood spider murders a whole village with infinite attack loop

Yesterday I met a group of boneyard wolf attacking flat lagoon. They are all over 200 hp and look tough.

So...game mechanics and animation length is my fault? Okay
no
it's literally skill levels that let you break out of it or dodge it.
sicne your not skilled enough, 1 bonedog will massacre you.

and wait until you fight a goat. you thought bonedogs were bad.

Can confirm what Hatsune Neko is saying. Bonedogs are actually quite vicious, especially Elder, they attack extraordinarily fast against novice characters. Your best bet when fighting them early, is either Crossbows (They are quite slow actually, you don't even need to do combat shuffle cheese really) or 2-3 on one.

I have witnessed my own Doggo (Elder, with over 70 Dex now, I've had him since about as early as you can get doggo without using Guy and Dog start) that can rip through entire reaver bands.

Hi. Yeah animals/animal bots melee attack mostly cannot be blocked. Even if your character have more than 80 def. Their long range & ability to combo 4 -5 times before your people can retaliate makes them formidable. Strip them off that & they are not a threat. They will continue to attack even with all their limbs rendered useless. Can still do combos too.

The suggestion using crossbows is a good method.

Well that just doesn't feel right at all. They're so common, yet they can kill entire bands of people. I get the game is supposed to be difficult and unfair sometimes, but there comes a point where it's just not fun to have so much progress wiped out by one angry doggo

Most of the situations you'll encounter in Kenshi will be unfair, you just got small taste of it from bonedogs. Wait until you encounter Beak Things, at least you can run away from bonedogs. Although if you push through the hardships and unfairness of Kenshi, you'll find ways to adapt and overcome the difficulties you face. You'll most likely die a lot in the process. :)

if you have 5 guys in your outpost, the smart thing to do would be to send all 5. never assume that the guys/animals knocking at your door can be handled safely by a single dude.

the wolf might still have killed your whole squad if they were rookie fighters, but at least 5 guys whacking at the wolf at the same time would have a better chance than feeding him single rookies one by one
