Just have to do it if you want it to happen.
Might I suggest a singular save point instead of constant saving. A spot where you're ready to go on into the world with your current group but arent that strong yet.
Not quite iron man but it might deter.you from feeling like you need to constantly reload saves.
Looks like it was atleast being considered, hope the devs get back to this

not ideal but unbinding quicksaves and disabling autosaves might just do it heh.
as i do not know when or if it will be completed. i just know the Devs where at one time working on it.
I also feel that Kenshi has too much stuff going around to make for a pleasant true ironman.
Even games like XCOM occasionally eff you over with an unfortunate glitch, which is why i always mod in the ability to entirely restart a mission even during ironman.
Or like with Battle Brothers when you lose a high end character just like this to a couple 5% hits to the head, in the moment you're like bull****, but once things cool down you realize that bad luck is also part of the experience, not everything has to be fair.
But it takes restraint not to abuse save scumming.
That said some players want to have to deal with the challenge but know they won't resist the temptation when hit hard.
I lost Agnu, Beep, my packbull and all my goats safe one to a crazy HN raid i underestimated, and it took a lot of restraint not to just casually load back 10 minutes ago like nothing happened.
But now i weep their death and my playthrough took an unexpected turn.
If you want a semi ironman experience i suggest you only do hard saves when you're about to exit the game, and otherwise rely on autosaves only. You can even increase the time between each autosave if you feel they happen too often.
Here is another bug: 2 days ago a HN priest came to my base for pray, i was ready for praise Okran with my Holy Frame but when the priest arrove i couldnt speak with him,a bug. Honestly i dont want to face a HN raid and ruin my playthrough for a bug so i simply saved and load the game, then i could speak with him, its not bad luck its just a bug so that savescumming was necesary.
I think the real joy of this game is that sometimes you lose but never at all, there is always a benefit in losing or missing something. If you fall on the habit of savescum....man this game become so easy and you let a lot of fun pass by. Nobody forces you to savescum, so simply dont do it and play your desired ironman mode. As Niklasgunner said its about selfcontrol.
Kenshi is plenty punishing. You just gotta get rid of the saving mindset.
