Shop counters and running a shop?
I bought a building in a city, and have a shop counter in it that has items to sell.

Does the shop need someone to man the counter for items to sell? What else is needed beside the shop counter full of loot, on order for the shop to be operational (Lights? Furniture? Permits?). Can thieves still your goods from the counter and do you need security?

I haven’t sold anything yet, but just got it set up...

trade goods only
it does not require people

Might need mods that allows npc to have more cash and ability to buy more goods you sell. Otherwise you're limited to what Hatsune said. Meaning Can't run a weapon shop and etc. Also the economy is ♥♥♥♥♥♥, buying ingredients to cook or brew stuff and sell is a total loss of money which doesn't make sense but that is how it is. You need to grow and do everything otherwise if you want to run a bar or restaurant, because it isn't going to work otherwise. Also even with mods, running a weapon/armor shop is not profitable unless you also do everything yourself. Same thing applies unfortunately.

Yeah, I have my own farms, mines, and leather from hides I kill. So I can make food, grog, leather armor, etc.

I am seeing that many are saying that goods rarely sell, so I may just sell them directly to shops for the money instead? I might put a counter in my own base at some point, because I do have traders wandering through now occasionally.

Does high quality armor sell? I have a couple pieces that are worth thousands, and I’m hearing no npcs have that to spend.

Shop counters are not worth the effort if you want money. You have to craft and stock them up for a few pennies of profit. Best to craft some more valuable items like weapons/armor and then once you have a bunch heading to a rich city and selling them. You can probably get 100k from a single town. I'm located in Shem and use Flat Lagoon for my selling as there are several merchants that have 25k each. An another advantage of that is that you will train your crafting skills and end up with some high grade items to use for yourself too.

Shop Counter is sort of a novelty....you can make money off it but it is not something U should base ur main source of income from. I have a huge trade route and i leave my excess foodstuffs in small shops everywere mainly dried meat and other self made foodstuff are the only real thing U can make a profit on since you sell them at full price (from the shop counter) then if you were 2 do it directly (Dried meat: Sell value 37 Buy value:80) Sell value is the direct amount you make when selling to a vendor, Buy value is what the shop makes when it is sold from a vendor so when U are selling from a shop counter you sell at full price.

So basically sell you excess foodstuff at a counter and it does sell but at a much slower rate. Other stuff that is bought is medkits, discount hive limbs (major traders buy them) Nothing can B stolen 4 it 2 b sold

Yeah me too. I just downloaded a mod that fixes smuggling so now I just smuggle hash as a main source of income. Making long ass journey from Hives and Shark all the way to Heng.

Very true. The counters add a bit of a rpg feel to the game but do very little to help your income. You also need mods to give them some semblance of functionality.

You know when you went to Disneyland and when you were on the ride it would roll through the different feature displays and as you approached the machines would come to life but when you left the machines all turned off and returned to their original position? Yeah, thats Kenshi.

If you do not have a character in the zone your shop counter is in it will not sell anything.

In turn, if you leave a character in each zone you could eventually overload your memory and risk a crash, especially if you zone hop while its happening. Or you could depopulate the world but then who will be left to buy your stuff?

A really good analogy but your missing the point. Regardless of your location, the shop counters do not function properly. Mods however give reason to build shop counters.

So what are some good mods for setting up a shop? I bought a nice building in a city and might as well use it since I can’t sell it? I’m sort of committed now. I wouldn’t mind setting up a shop in my own city that I am building, if there is enough trade in larger bases?

I use two kinds of mods for shopping. Population mods as you need shoppers and the shopping mods themselves.

*Populated Cities
*Playertown Settlers
*NPC Enjoy More Shopping
*Enhanced Shopping Economy

These work fairly well together. They won't net your colony a fortune but at least the counter won't sit in the corner like an old disused 70's bar you inherited from a family member.

I can't find the Playertown Settlers on the workshop, mind linking it please?

Also, can the NPC Enjoy More Shopping affect what you can buy? Like if something really rare and without you actually knowing it, can the NPC buy it? lol

I'm not very good with the steam links but this should get you there:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=816282176

It's actually Player Town Settlers. Typo on my part though I had to go through the russian versions link to find the english version. I didn't read properly what each of the mods actually do but the gist of it is NPC's have more money to buy more expensive items and now (unlike vanilla) they will also purchase weapons and armour.

Don't expect to be a Kenshi tycoon however. One feature I do like is each time a NPC buys an item, you immediately see the $ value of the item flash near the counter.

Edit: Coolios ... my link worked :steamhappy:

i had one that was really profitable outside of heng... i looked where the roads collided outside the city... but you have to be able to kill skimmers.

Its hit or miss thought, sometimes nothing then I glance down and 25k just like that... it has to do with how much money each person has to spend and the traffic you get.

Can you remember what type of goods you were selling ie, lots of low value gds or a few high value items?
