Crafting Edge I weapon and getting Rusted Junk
Hi all

So i worked hart to get my weapon smith to lvl 94, he can craft edge I lvl weapons. I have researched edgewalker and have a weapon smith station lvl 3. if i choose to craft a edge I lvl katana i have all the listing for it with time and material but i got a rusted junk weapon instead of a edge I type. crafted 10 katanas after that and got from junk to edge type everything.

Is that normal that even with near max skill and best weapon smith station that you get random lvl weapon grades crafted?

Was your weaponsmith working in darkness and/or wounded? Either of those will restrict the quality of goods produced.

Almost sounds like you went over the 100 skill cap. If you go over the 100 skill cap it rolls back around to rusted junk, if I remember right. I have heard about it happening, but never had it happen to me personally. I think Shidan or Hatsune can answer that one.

Did you mod anything that affects weaponsmithing?

you need like 2 lamps around one guy or your skill is debuffed of darkness.
2 lanterns of radiance/ or one latern and one celling light.
outside you need a big spot or searchlight directed at the working place.

if you started before it is dark. the lights will turn to late = bad weapon.

if someone with bad skill started or was in the production (even 1 sec) the weapon gets lower grades.

EDIT: plus you have no 100chance to get the highest tier.

As the others have mention, the only things I know of that would decrease quality like that are injuries, darkness penalty, and going over 100 skill level.

If none of those are applicable to you here, then I'd suggest uploading the save so we can check it out. :)

It would have to be those combined to drop that far to produce rusted junk. Darkness penalty is -50% max, which would reduce him to about 45 skill which would still produce about a catun 2 weapon. Which is why I said it is most likely a rollover issue. To get a rusted junk result he would need to have a skill adjusted to like 10 or lower.

I have not had it happen myself yet, that I remember. It could have happened and I jsut threw the weapon out because I knew about the bug already. I have seen numerous people complain about it in the past.

I also had tried to search the forums on the older topics on the rollover. For some reassn I could only locate the recent mention by Erei about a week or two ago. I do remember a few topics on it because I remember someone brought up the method to rotate their weaponsmsith out around 92 skill to prevent it from happening.

You'd think there'd be a way to prevent that from happening.

Is there nothing the Dev can do to fix the issue?

Far as I know, the rollover cannot happen in normal gameplay. The skill stops leveling before it can start.

Got a link to that thread Peon? I don't remember seeing it myself, I'd like to give it a look. What you're saying about that thread, plus what is mentioned by the OP here, indicates something may be triggering that rollover early.

Is their also the possibility of hunger/injury modifier stacking with darkness modifier in this instance OP?

Another consideration is the weapon level is based purely off the person who finishes the job as far as i know meaning that the gm smith can do 99% of the work only to have another character with less skill or the Gm smith return with penalties at a later date and do the final 1% of the task producing inferior work.

NPC used to do this all the time when they wondered into private buildings to work on craft stations, but also having an apprentice smith set to the same bench can cause this issue if one isn't watching carefully.

Ya, I tried finding it, I only found Erei's mention of it. I have seen a handful of times it came up. I tried about a dozen different keywords in the search.

I think it might have been patch fixed somewhere in the 60-70s?

I know it has come up a few times during the conversations of removing the 100 skill cap.

Well, I'll look into it later. See if I can find a scenario of it triggering early, just in case.
