Can a skeleton "die"?
And if they were to die, could they be reassembled?

Nope.
They die like everyone else.

I think the threshhold for their death is much greater, like their health can drop further into the negative before they die.

I found this out after meeting and recruiting my first ever skeleton when he got critically injured and I had no repair kits on me. I got my fastest runner, stripped them naked and had them run from the south side of the desert to the north side the whole time watching his life slowly tick away. I thought for sure I wasn't going to make it. By the time I got there and put him in a repair bed his chest was -152 health and he was still clinging to life.

Well I guess skeletons can't really bleed since they don't have any blood to bleed... I suppose he could leak oil but I'd think that would be less critical then if he had blood, since you can just easily replace oil, but you can't pour new blood into somebody and expect it to really work. :/

Yeah but how are they going to do a blood transfusion? How would they even know blood types? If you put the wrong type in somebody chances are they're going to die...

Eh, cavemen were doing successful trepanations

They do not have blood, but I think of it like a small capacitor that is losing its charge. It is responsible for keeping their flash memory from losing bios data (their personality and AI) Once that is gone...

They are gone.

Were the hell are you going to get another AI chip in this wasteland?

They cannot be rebuilt, only maintained.

The capability to build Skeletons is lost/yet to be rediscovered.

Yep. So what you see in the game now is, for all we know, the last remnant of the entire race.

Talking to some skeletons reveals they are over a thousand years old, but they don't remember life before the world we see now.
