To easy to make money
Just started playing the game again, last time i played was with the old map we had with no biomes. Back then there was no thieving, no mining. the only way to make money was to either scavenge dead bodies, actually fight people and turn in bounties. It was a fun challenge.

Now on my new playthrough on this new map, i was going to start the same way. Fight/scavenge bandits with the guards outside the walls until im strong enough to leave the city. Then i noticed like 8 copper deposits right outside the city walls and realise i can just mine non-stop and make tons of money without fighting anybody (except the occasional skimmer). Bought a house in town to get full research unlocked with no threat whatsoever. So my entire crew stays mining while 1 "scout" goes recruiting and scavenging all the artifacts i need to start building a base. My miners are now making around 50-75k per day. Money is to easy to get and i havent even started doing anything else. ive got over 300k and didnt have to fight anybody for it.

iron/copper mining: way to easy for money. Maybe make it so the city owns those resource nodes right outside their city? why would they let me mine their resources?makes no sense. How about u need a certain amount of faction points first? and/or u need to pay a "mining Claim" for each node u want to mine. or maybe make it so people need to rest, they can mine 24/7. makes no sense again. or perhaps a working economy where u cant just keep selling copper to the same vendor for the same price over and over again?
edit: or make it so u need to take over an existing mine by force? instead of getting a "free mine"

Thieving: Also way to easy, im able to walk into any ruin/lab and steal end game items ( engineering research, ancient books) with 1 guy no problem whatsoever. i can set my guy to lock picking a 100 difficulty chest for hours while i play with my other crew and in 2 days of lockpicking that same chest he has it unlocked without being attacked by anybody? makes no sense. How about actual patrols in those areas or guards that stay there? should not be able to make the enemies chase you away for the ruins they are guarding.

Also just wanted to point out we need more reasons to want to attack factions, maybe in the future we can take over cities? not sure if thats planned but it would give more meaning to everything.

Anyways, just wanted to share my thoughts on my new playthrough. Game has come a long way. Im still having fun its just to easy to get everything u need to start building a base. Im sure it will be more challenging once i actually build the base. then again its possible to pick a location with barely no attacks. but im thinkign of building my base in Darkfinger biome. Thoughts?

One can chose how to play the game and in doing so the challange they face. The game allows it to be both incredibly easy or exceding difficult because it doesn't enforce a particular playstyle.

If sitting inside a safe zone without threat is to easy try soemthig else off a fresh new start.

I dont think the game was ment to be "incredibly easy" atall.
these are suggestions for balancing the game, there should be no easy ways in kenshi.

is this what it has come to? simply avoid doing things in the game altogether?

edit: i know there are some great mods out there, but i like to play strickly native. atleast until full release.

It's not so much a case of avoiding, it's understanding the mechanics - cause and consquence. Anything one choses to do will lead ultimately to being either OP in that area or game failure.

For example
Setting out with new character(s) with nothing but a handful of resources to start a settlement from scratch. (difficult) Setting out in same circumstances with developed characters, stockpiled resources (Easier)

Let the city guards do the fighting (easy), let the mercs do the fighting (medium), do your own fighting (harder) Do your own fighting for a length of time and it gradually becomes easier until there isn't a challenge left.

The problem is if one tries to restrict a style of gameplay for the sake of balance, it will either make it more difficult for starting, or more easy at end-game or vice versa. Or artifically balance to the level of the player throughout making any advancement mute. etc etc

Taking original post a theif should be able to avoid combat and successfully loot, forcing a theif to fight makes their role redundant... might as well just have a warrior who can picklocks or smash doors after its killed all opposition. Introducing a mechanic that limits attempts results in save scumming, introducing thresholds for attempts makes it better but fancy doing all that exploring just to find that this area is level restricted, need to find ones level designated area - to difficult? Stop exploring 1st hand and look the answers up on interwebz!

Sorry don't mean to come off strong just playing devils advocate to my own reasoning...

Setting a iron / copper node to be owned by the town won't do anything. Towns already own wells and farms and nothing happens if you take water or crops. Also, stop complaining about mining a copper node right outside town within sight of the guards is easy. Of course that's easy. What stops people from doing that is it gets boring quickly if you're just sitting there watching your brand new character mine a node for an extended period of time.

I agree with the economy issue. However I do not agree with making a third topic on it. You already replied to two different topics on it earlier today. I aint participating in a third topic on it.

I'm actually gonna have to question your story. It would take well over 1million cats to buy the needed research books to get ALL of the research. Even with scouting artifacts out, you still would've had to purchase a bunch of books to get all the research.

How big did you make your squad? Are you feeding them all? Did you make or buy high end armor and weapons for them? It seems like you didnt dive very deep this time around with your measly 300k cats.

Being a thief, what a vermin.

The dev is working on more meaningful interaction with faction. I think a road map is laying around these forums somewhere. Tells us all whats gonna be added in the final updates. I'm looking forward to that addition.

I think we need to limit what people will buy. Doesn't make sense that I can go to every shop and they'll all exhaust their money to buy my ore. It would take some work and thought but I really think every shop should have their own internal list of what types of things they'll buy and how much. I'd much prefer having to find a buyer for your goods. Would make caravans a lot more fun and interactive instead of just sending your squads from town to town exhausting every shop's cat's with whatever you're selling.

People I think that enough about it's too easy because of that or too easy because of this. Give it a rest. I am tired of seeing discussions about changing the game because someone can't stop themselves from doing things that for them makes the game too easy.

You suppose to discuss about things that could improve the game not change it to serve you. These talks does not improve the game just changes the game itself.

How many times someone has to tell you guys that this game is popular because you can make this game your own. You don't want to mine you don't mine. You don't want to steal you don't steal.

Why do you always want to restrict play styles because you don't like it. You are not the only one playing this game.

Do you know how boring it is too mine all that time? But if the person wants to be a miner let them. That's their fun and play style.

Just stop it. So frustrating.

You are missing the entirely point of this game.

You make your own story. That's why this game is so great. At some point you don't want the devs to dictate your story. You want to make it your story your reason to fight.

We already know that the UC are for slavery and the HN are religious zealots who hates everyone that don't look like you. You have cannibals that are ready to eat you. You have people who have bounties are their head. Do I need really need to continue?

You make it your own story. The rest is up to you. Use your imagination . You don't need the devs to make your story for you. They already made the foundation . It's up to you to write your story not the devs.

Maybe you should go check a few utuber that are doing exactly that. You will see what I am talking about.
