Heavy Weapons OP and Archery.
I never understood this fascination games have with the buster type blades yes the claymore was an effective weapon and the no dachi was a weapon of equal devastation but they didnt make them any bigger for a reason.

The strength needed is one thing to lift it and even if you assume most people could probably get a few good swings, after that your facing physical fatigues where all other weapons dont, they where built light for many reasons.

This game has in my opinion taken this absurd weapon and caused it to be some super weapon when realisticly a polearm would be poking holes in a person as they tried hoisting the thing.
Not only do the Ai weild it like a stick they strike multiple people, yet none of their own men in this sweep of the blade.

Which brings me to the next point or the same point, archery. How many times my men have been hit by my own archers or I've watched the ai shoot its own men in the back is beyond count. Surely your archers would be smart enough to pick away at the stragglers and fringes than aim at a lone warrior surrounded by your own troops.

In my opinion the weapon dynamics are back to front archers should be freindly ignored and weapons that hit multiple people should also have a chance to hit allies.

There are some similar discussions in the balance/suggestions forum. I think the general consensus is yes they are unrealistic- but aesthetically pleasing to some and not immersion breaking enough for most.

Regarding strike zones that's a mechanic, hitting allies and neutrals(?) accidentally through aoe was removed although ranged shots can still go awry.

There is a secondary stat for archery i believe it's precision or something similar and as that increases so will their habit of freindly fire be reduced. This is also applied to turrets.

Somone else can probably answer this better but there was a time when weilding big weapons resulted in catching or getting caught by the npc aoe which triggered all sorts of chaos as the local ai platoons reacted to the damage taken in an absolute manner that then had an unintentional knock on affect to everyones reputations including inter npc factions and started a downwards spiral.

Idk, everytime I put Heavy weapons on my high level people (high str, dex, etc) it doesn't really seem to compare, but then again I've figured out where a lot of the good edgewalker stuff is sold so I just outfit them with really nasty katana.

Watching your group equipped with the absurd weapons, taking swings throu the enemy group and mowing them down will always be satisfying.

Seeing the enemy with them means you know its gonna be a tough fight.

With kenshi semi based in reality and not. Having absurd weapons is fun.
Enjoy its weirdness.

The best weaponsmith in the land makes a Katana, it is better in every way to a rusty Katana.
Everyone would want this weapon.

The best weaponsmith in the land makes a Heavy Weapon, he glues lead weights to the thing making it useless to nearly everyone. Because all his skill in heavy weapon construction is about glueing more weights to stuff.

Terrible bad, broken logic behind heavy weapons. The craftsman isn't making a better weapon, only a heavier one. I get this is slightly off topic. But the weight is being used as an excuse for the absure reach and damage range.

If it's that big an issue make a mod that reflects how you think things should be.

One of the beauties of this game, it can be adjusted in so many ways.
Have to agree.
If you dont like them.
Mod them out of your game.
Problem solved.

Personally i modded them into more npc groups and gave them ability's to use them.
Its all about what you prefer outside of vanilla settings.

If you want to view things from a game lore slant if there is a race in the world like the shek than heavy weapons make sense. A race of large, muscular and very blood lusty people would of course perfer large heavy weapons.

I always saw them as a sort of anti-skeleton weapon. Its hard to stab them, given that they lack squishy bits, so the solution is to just bash them to bits. Same goes for a lot of the other beasties you can find in the world. This hardly covers the entire logic beinhd them, but it works for me. Plus they're supposed to be badass, cuz if you can swing it around, you probably shouldn't be messed with anyways.

They might not have fleshy bits but I have glorious Edgewalker steel folded over 100 timeru.

Also might've managed to snag Tengu's meitou...

Thanks for your feedback we may not agree on heavy weapons in the game but each to their own i guess.

Still I stand by my opinion of them, mainly as it seems every nation seems to be using them to some degree, its less of an Japanese sword fighting game than I expected because of them and thats what truely disapoints me about them being used.

From what I'm seeing they have been substituted to make the holy nation and Shek seem like badasses yet realisticly if they where deployed in the real world as I mentioned before, a naginta would make short work through speed and reach of anyone wielding these clumsy things.

[SnugSnug] mentioned the Aoe being removed because it created havock in the game, well thats my point as well, you go into battle swinging these weapons in sweeping arcs with no concern about who is within range your going to get into trouble with freind and foe alike.

Anyway until the day they get nerfed I will as [iokimg] suggested look for a mod that brings balance back to the game.

I mean they way they work in Kenshi don't make them absurd to me. I've had some heavy weapons guys for months and they can still barely wield planks. The real life resulting of hefting about a heavy club is evident in the game already, you get clubbed if you don't have the skill. With crossbows, I know the mounted ones are farily easy to get rid of friendly fire altogether. Regular crossbows, you have to shoot your friends to get better at not shooting your friends. Really messed up, but trains their toughness so win-win I guess.
