How Use Map? Newbie Trying To Learn The Game
All the discussions I've found researching this topic are written with the assumption that you already understand how to use the map. They are just sharing tips for the most. So...I come here for help.

I open the map and the only specific location info I see is related to where my character is at the moment. The rest of the map shows no other outposts or cities or anything.

Zooming in doesn't seem to help find anything. That process brings nothing else into view.

In various discussions I keep seeing people talking about going to this region or that region to do different things. How do you know where these regions are?

I keep seeing in discussions, folks talking about The Hub. I want to go there but have no idea where it is and the map is no help. In fact I would not use the word "map" to discribe the thing. It is just a picture of a land mass.

How do I use this thing to navigate? Thx for your help!

once you discover locations they will be marked on your map or find a travel merchant in a town, sometimes they sell maps of an area that marks towns and such or you could cheat and use the wiki map but that kinda takes the fun outa things

So...just to be certain i understand you. I need to just go on walk about? Wander around and as I come upon locations they will thereafter appear on my map? In effect I have to fill in my map by walking around?

And I guess every time I start a new game, as apposed to continuing a saved one, I need to redue this process?

Yeah, you just have to explore. The game is full of mystery and danger and it's your job to stumble into it and survive the result at any cost! Even if you have to spend some time unconscious recovering or as a slave until you can break free...

Edit: to be specific about the new game question, yes. If you start a new game with a new character/squad your map will be empty again. However, loading a save or importing a saved game will retain your knowledge of the map and will not clear it.

It's an unusual game (in a good way) in that you are often rewarded for getting your ass kicked, as long as you don't actually die. Losing a fight or being enslaved can actually do more to build your stats than winning and walking away..
In ruins you can also find maps to reveal locations. Also some stores sell them as well.

Speaking of things that will kill me. On my first couple game play sessions I got attacked by dogs. I was by myself each time. After the attack I was on the ground bleeding and unconscious.

I had med kits in my inventory but couldn't seem to use them. Clicking the medic button did nothing.

After looking around for help with this it seemed to be the message that you need to have another person or persons with you to use the med kits to save you. You can't save yourself. Is this true?

if your or your team is unconcsous you can not perform any actions till you wake up

should mention tho that sometimes a passer by will med you, the slavers definately will but they will also haul you away to a slave camp lol

Both times I just lay there and bled out. But if I had woke up then I could have used a med kit to heal myself?
True.
Solo play not for beginers. You need others with you too survive the first learning curve.

yes, start is rough cuz you have literally no stats to keep you alive, after a few beatings you'll strengthen up and chances of death become less

So basically, as Apexas says above, getting your you know what kicked - as long as it doesn't kill you - can be a good thing.
