real reason being because it's cooler that way?
It's just like a novel I wrote where their electrical and electro-magnetism technology far outstrips our own. They don't have gun powder, but use rail guns (also they use swords, bows, crossbows, compressed air guns, and even something similar to laser tech). They also don't use fossil fuels and most inert gases.

There is another one called Gun manufacture which I didn't take. It just seemed to gimicky for this game. BTW, I have managed to find the Tanegashima gun in some bars and not the latter if that means there is a conflict between the two mods there.
but officially it's because this is primarily a sword combat game, and the Dev did not want guns. so there are no guns.
