Couple side comments: (1) wow the exclusion areas for these constructs are not very generous. Really trying to force players to have expansive bases I guess. (2) still fairly new to the game, but it seems to me the tech tree is kinda whacked out. Lots of examples, but some notable ones are that a lot of the vanilla camping stuff basically seems to require a Level 2 Research bench. A related one is the "Prisoner pole" requiring one building material!? I think the totallly free prisoner pole that cosomonautvampire's mod (Simple Camping Extras I think it is) is too generous, but one building material for a fricking pole in the ground!? Seems still to be lots of opportunities for mods to expand, tweak and improve these parts of the game.
IMO, you should be able to set up a more or less nomadic slaver gang without ever having to go into a city or build a "research bench" in a city. Some milestones are of course called for so it isn't too easy, and the tech you have shouldn't be as rock solid as the "advanced" slave firms, but just tying people to a pole and "owning" them/forcing them to do your bidding is pretty much the oldest form of capitalism!
It is a bit much and it is likely to discourage players from capturing and imprisoning, not to mention that in the vanilla game players cannot be slavers at all. I cannot blame the developers for not wanting a more restrictive ESRB rating, but they could at least have structured the tech tree, etc., so that players "fixing it" to be more realistic was easy.
