What are the giant spiked ball things suppose to be?

I can't find a topic on it and its been bothering me for ages.

I'm referring to the giant spiked ball things by the Shek Kingdom. Are they suppose to be a plant or scrap?

I've always seen them as a sort of giant mega-cactus myself.

They're vestiges from a bygone era with a lot of technology

Most likly some form of corals from when here was more water form what ive gathered alot of kenshi pangea used to be under the depths according to alot of dialoge and the ships dock giant marine life skeletons etc

They appear to be modelled after a sea urchin but what they are meant to represent in the game I have no idea. Maybe just giant sea urchins.

They're giant sea urchins. Kenshi has a lot of stuff littered about suggesting the continent was under much more water than it is presently. Even the skeletons suggest that there were once great port cities on inland Kenshi.
