No one is buying my stuff
I am always starting the game by mining for a few days, buy some starter gear and a big bag, then loot ruins till I'm rich. I wanted to start making money different ways. So I am exploring the crafting options, and selling my goods through a public sales counter, but I must say that the game seems almost entirely broken in this respect.

I have downloaded a few mods to help with npcs buying my goods. Mods that add universal income for npcs, and a mod that increases the population in the towns, and a mod that makes npcs buy armor and weapons.

First off, I want to say that unless you sell your crafted goods through a personal sales counter, you're making either very little profit that is almost laughable or you're going to outright not make any money at all and you'll be running a deficit. I had a character that was a master armorer, who made specialist/masterwork armor, but it only sold for ~10k, it's just silly, this would only get me roughly a 6k profit for specialist grade armor I crafted, and it takes roughly 2 or 3 days to craft a single piece of armor. I'm just simply not okay with those numbers. So I tried selling it through my sales counter - no one ever buys my gear. Okay, well not everyone can afford to buy top notch armor, I get it I guess. However, there's no way I am aware of to make poorer quality gear that is standard or high quality. If my character is a master armorer, then they'll only make the best armor quality.

So I decided to try to sell food. I'm making cooked vegetable bowls for Christ sake. 300 cats per bowl. What happens is either people walk a into my shop, stand still, then leave without even making it to the shop counter, or they get to the shop counter and leave without buying anything, or they'll say "I can't afford that"....

Even with these mods making more npcs and giving the npcs more money, I can't sell the most simple, cheap items in this game. What's the point of even having a shop counter? No one will buy anything. It's very frustrating. Can anyone give me some advice or suggest mods for this? I have more city population, shops have more items+, and enhanced shopping economy, and trade routes intensified. Idk if any of these mods may be causing an issue with selling my goods through a personal sales counter. Help is appreciated.

NPCs have a shopping list. and many have different things they want
if you do not have what they are looking for then they won't buy it.

as for gear, base game you can not sell your gear in a shop counter, that requires a Mod, and if its not working then thats a Mod issue.

"I can't afford that" means they do not have enough money to buy.
and its possible the Mod has bugged it out.

Right. Well, I can continue to mess around with the mods, but before I had any mods, no one was coming to buy anything from me period :/

I mean, not having money to buy what I'm selling makes sense if I'm selling top quality gear, and I do have a mod that makes npcs buy gear, however if it's not working, I understand that it's not the game's fault. However, what I can't abide is the base game putting in a player store counter to sell goods through, and no npc in the entire city can afford one of the cheapest foods in the game - a bowl of cooked vegetables. I'll get rid of all my mods and try it out, however I suspect this aspect of the game is broken because I have been tinkering with this for a long time.

How much cats do you really need ? This is not a MMO where you can cut prices or have everyone see what a successful businessman you are. Why do you need to make more money when you eventually make millions just running back and fourth to a city ? So what if you are making 6k instead of 10k profit. One of the best weapons on this game you can afford, and also you are self sufficient if you have crafters.

This idea of this game is not about being a businessman it's about survival, and getting what you need to fight the big factions. Money is easy to get even if you are not getting the amount you want. Right now I can buy the best gear and best weapons for my whole army. I can also craft it.

The point of having a shop counter is for roleplaying a merchant :D Just make one runner for your tribe, get his athletics high, get a decent backpack for trading, and use him/her to run goods back and fourth. For how long you wait for some traders to come across your outpost you can make millions just running to the shops.

base counter sales with no mods works
it just sells sparingly.

you shouldn't depend on it for sales, at most it should make enough to pay taxes. maybe.

Yesterday, I went to Vain. Beakthings and Gorrilos were everywhere. The Hive killed them, I looted hides from them, then sold the hides. One in-game day of that netted me almost 40 000 cats.

When there are no Beakthings nor Gorrilos walking around Vain, I visit the bandit camps. Kill bandits, loot their gear and sell it. That nets about 10 000 cats a day.

I'm making too much money to run a store.

I personally like to stealth around, KO guards from a city, then run to a city from a different faction and sell it there.

Then there’s always good old fashioned drug dealing. Buy it cheap in the swamp, sell it for profit at the shinobi tower in Heng or something

You're probably trying to do a bit of roleplaying and I understand, but if you want to make serious money from crafting you should specialize in robotics and craft skeleton repair kits. It can be a little time consuming I suppose (never actually timed it) but you can buy all the required mats in town if necessary and sell for a profit once you have your final product. The build order I go in is:

Motor (electrical compontent [216 cats] + iron plate [135 cats])
Press (2 iron plates [270 cats])
Skeleton muscle (press + 2 steel bars [1296 cats])
Robotics component (motor + skeleton muscle)

You can then make two skeleton repair kits (1 steel bar [x2 1296 cats] + 0.5 robotics component) out of the one robotics component.

So, by the time it is all said and done, you can sell the two skeleton repair kits for 4,341 cats a piece, or 8,682 total. Even if you had to purchase all the raw materials you're still turning a profit of 5,469 cats (158% profit margin) and the added bonus of being able to heal any skeletons at a higher proficiency rate in your party... or crafting specialist/masterwork limbs on your own eventually.
