Changing Race in FCS?
Hello. Trying to modify my main avatars race with the FCS. Couldn't find the value that coded for race. Any ideas?

As I recall, it is not possible to change a character's race using the FCS. Or at least nobody has found a way to do so yet.

Though what I've seen done as a workaround is to recruit a new character of the race you want to be, and import your stats onto them using the FCS. Then just dismiss your original character.

Thanks for the info. Your suggestion was my last option. Really didn't want to do that. My character has been imported from save to save since I started Kenshi years ago. For some reason changing values manually feels wrong.

Ha, I might drag a skeleton to a Plastic Surgeon that I've renamed Skin Changer, do the copy, then feed the old body to Fogmen. New Year, New (lack of) Flesh. That sounds reasonably deranged.

On the original note, the game has to store race as a value SOMEWHERE in the files. Will keep looking first.

It does, but I've never found a way to actually change it. You can find it on the right side of the appearance data for the character in the platoon file. Which you can easily locate using the changes button along the top. :)

I just successfully changed "Jewel" the scorchlander into "Jinx" the greenlander using a plastic surgeon and FCS.

Edit using a quicksave file just in case...

I opened my platoon, in there I found two entries named "default", which were both appearance files for female characters, each of different races.

There's no identifiers for which race is which, so I used the plastic surgeon to change the scorchlander to height 80.

When I went back into FCS, I compared the heights of the two defaults, and made a copy of the one with height 100. This is the greenlander's data.

I renamed the copy of the greenlander's data to "default", copied the string ID of the scorchlander into the greenlander's copy and deleted the old scorchlander's data.

I also went through and copied over the old appearance data of the scorchlander onto the new file, but this is pointless cuze the racial transition screws up these values anyway. Just do this near a plastic surgeon to avoid looking weird.

And that's how I made a trans-racial. :)

P.S. I have no idea where the appearence data is for all my male characters, so don't ask. lol

This is also an old thread, and is no longer true. I figured out how to change race via FCS a while ago. Though I will note, my method is a bit different than yours.

Posted mine here. :)

Haha damn it Shidan, you robbed me of my glory! Looking at your method though, one could argue mine's less hassle. I might run into issues though, cuze I never touch the medical states.

Will play with it for a while and see if anything wierd happens...

From scorchlander to greenlander you should be fine with regards to the medical data. Since the races match. Something like a hiver to greenlander would be different though.

Honestly, they both seem like the same level of complexity to me, and actually amount to the same change (you're duplicating the appearance file, and I'm copying it's data over), also have the same requirement of having a character of the race you want to switch to already.

I will concede one thing though, mine relies on a new feature that didn't exist for a long time. While yours would have even been possible back when this thread was first made. So if you'd done this a year ago, you would have most certainly been the first. ;)

Oh yep, cuze humans have 100 HP on limbs and shek were like 125, I can see how that would screw things up.

Heh, I couldn't've done this when the thread was new, I started playing not long ago. lol
