I personally wouldn't really want to eat tumors, but to each their own.
I treat animal meat as just one-time "bonus" that is useful in early game when you don't have a proper food production outpost. After that, its importance really drops (come to think of it, I eventually got tired of looting unconscious enemies when exploring and just moved on after they are all downed).
Given all that, I ended up not using mod's giving raptor meat (I used to), and just go hunt wild dogs if I really need the meat in early game.
