1. Make sure there is room in inventory or backpack for the items they are trying to pick up.
2. Make sure job button is on so Engineering job isn't greyed out.
3. Make sure there's items in storage and/or you have an actual designated storage for the items you want them to build with.
All I can think of at the moment ;o)
Sometimes deliveries they already did many times make them stuck at the container and doing the drag and drop on that container (as if they do not properly loot form the container or immediately lose path to the goal and dropping it again) then the taken and immediately dropped items flicker wildly int he inventory.
For me, I start to notice bugs that come on with character jobs that worked normally before I start pushing beyond 45-50 days. There are particular character doing their job and soon after start bugging out and can't perform any job, while as others can do it without issue. In a squad of 40, 3-5 characters start behaving like that after so 45 or so days. At that point I already know its time again to perform an import, since it is the only thing that clears these issues, other than purposely killing those malfunctioning characters.
Anything that is considered general storage will not allow characters to take out or put in automatically, even if you put it as a job.
For someone to automatically take out or put it in, you have to use storage specifically for the thing you are trying to store. So for automatically storing and using building materials, as an example, use "building material storage". For food, use food basket, for wheatstraw use wheatstraw barrel, etc.
AI doesn't play well with general storage just yet, use it only for manually storing stuff.
this is why i asked which ones are you using.
please name them so we can know if you're using the right ones.
that's why
it has to be resource specific.
general storage will not haul.
