Various factions have methods to ally with them through dialog though.
As for the healing up members of a faction for rep method; You get more rep for healing characters higher up in the hierarchy.
So aim to heal i.e. those high paladins and inquisitors over the holy chosen.
There is a significant boost to rep if you heal up a character with diplomatic status.
If one has received a severe beating and you are the only one healing him, you get around 6-7 rep with their faction.
I currently have a holy nation diplomat in a bar in the swamp and one in a waystation who both consistently pick fights with the local skeletons, only to find their innards scattered across the floor a few moments later. If you care about relations with the holy nation, just scrape the holy giblets of the floor and cram 'em back inside of them for a good, repeatable source of holy nation rep.
A large group of manhunters got into it in Sho-Battai in my current game. By the time it was over I was a few thousand richer and walked away with about 50 UC rep from the bounties :)
I'm debating trying this with the TechHunters' but I have some misgivings. They patched me up at random a few times and saved me from dying in the desert, so I feel I owe them one.
Didn't know the rank had an effect. Might be why I wound up with 105 rep with the Shinobi at one point. I objected to the beating and enslavement of the Thief Boss before I could officially join.
Works for UC too. Though you get to take the money as well. :D
Edit: And no, the Anit-Slavers are not in yet. But I've looked at their dialog to see the join process.
Since I already got hostile with them anyways, I allied with the Flotsam Ninjas which netted me a further -75 rep.
-162 just because they annoy me to no end xD.
Been raising UC via bounties but who do i give the money to in order to increase their rep? same for the Traders guild. I have talked with Lady Kana and that gave me 10 with them unlike the other nobles that, lets just say annoyed me to the point where they are walking arround naked.
Ah, i tought it would be their respective leaders as in tengu who gives me a "quest" witch he then found himself walking with rag pants, and the leader of the TG who tells me to go after tinfist (who is in the last part of the map), i did not know there were other important NPC's there.
