(There is an Animal Feeder too!)
wear a backpack and put the extra food inside.
they supposed to take food from that.
If they are all in the same squad. Doesn't work across squads.
But that's simply a case of making sure one person in each squad has bag with food.
my squad member eat automatic only when the hunger is down to 50 % or deeper
Also you can starve them to death if they do not have food on them and they are assigned to a job that does not pause e.g. weapon training. Or if they are stuck waiting on a job, i.e. machine full, not enough room in bag to empty it.
In all honesty, the easy way is better management. BE AWARE of what your various squads are doing. If you're away from base, then plan beforehand to have food for your troops.
I like to fill a small backpack per man with food. (4 Gohan, 2 Food Cubes, 2 Dried Meat, 1 Standard First Aid Kit and 1 Standard Splint Kit) I call it their "Breadbag" and everyone has one at all times, even within the base. It is not usually equipped, but it's on hand. As I am scouting, patrolling, or doing anything, I always scan my squads to know their status. (IE production problems, any wounds they have, if they're doing their job or AIMLESS, hunger, and what they're carrying. I have 6 squads total with 27 humans and 2 animals distributed among them. They may be together or spread all along the map, but I constantly keep tabs on them and take measures to counter any possible problems before they become a major issue.
If they're hungry? No matter if you're looking at them, or they're across the map. PAUSE THE GAME. Open the inventory of the person in question. Break out the Breadbag. Toss something from there into their main inventory. (Not needed, but I do it this way to conserve the Gohan for emergencies) If you don't have room, then they will take any item with the most NU Value and eat it. (Could be Gohan or Food Cube) they may or may not consume the entire item. Boom. No more hunger. Granted, you could also use Food Storage, and I occasionally do, but I prefer to keep the situation in hand rather than rely on the AI to figure it out.
Maybe it's my Military background, but that's the way I handle it. Also, when I am sending them on a Patrol, they will carry extra rations with them, to include Ration Packs, if available.
My advice is, you don't have to scan them constantly, but check in on them every few in game hours or so, or every few Real World minutes to see any issues they may have. It pays off for me.
Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. That's what they taught us in the Marines, and it's the lesson I pass on now to you. Good luck, and hopefully this is helpful.
