Where/How do i get books?

i heard ruins but i'm not sure where to find them or what i would expect there, the vendors don't sell them which sucks

Lost libraries for the advanced ones. Shops sell the normal ones.

im in this science ruins, looking for science books, the spiders are extremely powerful though, dont see any books

No, that is where you get the super high level research stuff.

you can sneak on them and K.O them and steal their parts to kill them...at leasts that was before never tried again

If ur squad is decent like 15-20 skill and have around 10 ppl you can probably do it

I found a fair ammount of books in the waystation east of The Great Fortress, south of Squin.
Stealing only seems an option at VERY high levels of sneak and assassination (to knock down the guards), as the shop is always open (which for the honest merchant can be an advantage).

The Ancient Library near Rebirth can be snuck to at night with a squad if you keep away from the spiders. You might want to boost both your lockpicking and sneak skills before doing it (although I managed to get a bull and bonedog when I did it this way). Once inside the spiders won't bother you if they haven't noticed you. On the way out after looting, I just ran as fast as possible, the spiders give chase, most run back you might get a couple of persistant ones. Athletetics skill is definitely useful for the escape if not being so sneaky (just make sure you strength is high enough to carry what you pick up)

Regular books are all over, I can steal tons of them from engeineer shops I officially do not need a single one any more on my last play through I bought like 12 rest I stole. Ancient ones I checked a libary only found burned books, so moved on so far I just found engineer schemetics or whatever they are called. But I know places with spiders that for a fact have some, just not ready yet for them.

I did just find some of these at a waystation in vanilla. For anyone searching for them Im not sure how common they are but I found 24 at the first waystation I reached west of the swamp.

I can only speculate, but I'm guessing my year and a half ago self was referring to the ASBs that a large part of this thread was talking about, and also assumed that was what Herr was also talking about. Reading it again now makes it clear they probably meant the normal books, but I guess I was blind. :P

Regardless. Normal books yes can be found at a Waystation, Ancient Science Books cannot in vanilla.
