So if you say may your base open to public it means traders that travel pass will visit if it's private they'll just pass it by

Even when i quit and reload the game still standing there
they might be stuck on borked pathing.
also trading is kinda iffy.
there is plenty of topics about it and best locations to set up a shop.
how was I supposed to know about this????
Minor Spoiler Warning: for new players, going to mention a hidden location.
Why is there an 'Open to Public' setting on Post-Ancient Workshop when you can't build your base there as I understand from other threads? If I use the chests for storage, can NPCs loot this cache if area left 'Open to Public'?
The location is really interesting, is there no way to build it up, or build/surround it for player use?
I wouldn't store items in a chest that could possibly reset.
a) need a high-traffic route nearby
b) a town nearby
c) enough cash to buy the items on their shop list.
And D) they never buy outside their shopping lists.
Usually a player builds as far as possible from major roads to maintain peace and quiet, but one can always build a smaller shop base closer to a main route.
NPCs seldom loot. A rare few factions have special raid coding that allows them to take food from your containers (ninjas for eg), and they'll bust your doors down regardless as to your public / private settings in order to achieve that, but... that's pretty much it. Such raids are unlikely to happen in an area that isn't recognised as "your base".
Even unarmed NPCs only seem able to loot weapons from other incapacitated characters, as opposed to chests. Your average mob of bandits doesn't care about your crates of ration packs / masterwork armour / meitous / whatever, and will leave them all alone.
