Why are there any towns without some form of guards?
Currently testing the game out again and I have a party of 5 skeletons that started in the city "The Hub".

There seem to be no guard presence of any kind here. There are regularly mercenary groups milling about but no one cares about protecting anything. Even the guards at the bar are pretty much indifferent.

I was in the bar getting ready to sell some stuff when a group of dust bandits came into town. They passed by two parties of mercenaries ignoring them completely. They found me in the bar and started up a big fight.

Not a single person did anything. The bar guards just watched. Bar patrons just watched. Mercenary groups that entered the bar just watched. Presumeably they all just "knew" they weren't on the menu and that the town would be just fine so they didn't interfere at all.

After the fight, lost of course since its a fairly new group of people here, everyone just let me lay there. The barman who I bought from and sold too countless times did nothing. Despite having fended off groups of starving bandits and saved the town a few times there wasn't a soul willing to do a single thing.

In conclusion... I think every town needs some form of guards. Or, at the very least, people in town should be a bit more concerned about attacks occuring in their town and their buildings. Otherwise it just kind of ruins the immersion.

In the Hub, the random squatters should be acting as guards. They're set to patrol the town, attack enemies, protect allies, etc.

Maybe something broke there again. The Hub seems to constantly get issues when it comes to AI...

Ah well thats no good.

I figured at the very least the bar guards would have stepped in. The only times I've seen the town defend itself is when a group in town is actively the ones being targeted and then only if they themselves are the target. Anyone in a group not being attacked will just ignore the situation.

I always figured the hub to be that place that has to live with bandits roaming through and thus it is a part of life. But not having the bar guards help seems a touch wierd. I actually kitted a group of hounds in there and they didnt care till my guys got wiped out, then the hounds wiped out the entire town :P teaches them not to help!

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me. I had the same thought as Cenderi, and assumed that The Hub was just this lawless town where anything goes. Kinda makes sense and neat since it was nearly completely wiped but but annoying when you're running for your life

To be fair, it is an outlaw town. Their AI does not trigger attacks on "troublemakers" like most guards. But it is supposed to trigger attacks on people they think of as enemies, which Dust Bandits should be considered as (unless something has changed and I didn't notice).

The shop guards especially have had issues. For instance, they used to let people steal from the bar with no complaints. Just stood there with no care in the world. And then the barman was perfectly happy to buy his goods back.
I hadn't tried stealing anything to see if the guards react to that at all or not.

I'm also a-okay with the idea of a lawless town or guards not helping you if you run back to town and lead a bunch of bandits in. In my case though I didn't bring the bandits with me. I was already in town when they came through and decided to single out my guys in the bar.

Also, the towns lawlessness is one-sided. No one did anything about bandits fighting me in the town inside the bar. No one even bothered to loot me or toss my bodies outside. However, if I had attacked anyone in the town they wouldn't just let it slide. I'd have the whole town at my throat.

It just doesn't make much sense that you can help a town out, do business with them, and just generally be a part of a town (to the point of literally owning a house there)... and yet still be totally an outcast when it comes to having your back in a fight.
