OP Spiders
i know there was recent patch that updated their attacks but are they supposed to be like elite mobs now?? Theyre OP as all hell and drop my characters left and right with armor on.
i was attacked by a couple blood spiders(2 vs 8) end result both spiders down 1 person barely made it standing everyone else was trashed or dying

what is the combat stats of your people?

I find short range weapons really suffer against them, while polearms slaughter spiders just because of the attack range where my guys sit. If you click on one they love to all mash into melee range and get aoe hit (and thats with spiders not supposed to AoE)

2 of my guys stats are in the teens and lower 20'2 on stats the rest are between 30-40.
3 of my guys are in armored rags 4 are in plate jackets with all having non metal leg armor on. all armor is mostly high grade some standard.
All weapons are green quality besides my main guys model edge nodachi(holy sword start)
Before the patch that updated them i had no problem dealing with them. honestly havent ran into them until now since patch.

Spiders isn't this bad. I am living in swamps, you can trust me. On other hand I never used armor with poor coverage like armored rags and my weapon of choice fragmented axes. 3 guys with 30-35 in stats, light armor of high/standard/specialist or whatever my smith managed to create without light during night, fragmented axes looted from berserkers and I haven't even bothered to avoid spiders (It's my usual setup for trading party, and I have to cross whole swamp to trade around Stack because after some recent changes you can't interact with merchants in the swamp shops when they spawn below their own shop, it happens way to often, and there isn't alot of shops in United Cities, alot of blood and skin spiders on my way to Stack, it's a long jorney, so they are overencumbered all the time, running away isn't an option, and they are always on road because there isn't much to do on a base, and i have to keep an eye on them because I must to be sure that they are fine, but whenever they return there is already alot of new stuff to sell.. phew). As for patch which nerfed spiders AoE - it's so just happened that it hit me when my main party stood on pack of unconscious skin spiders at some ancient lab or armory, and when I loaded game spiders regain consciousness and the first thing they did - hit whole my party of 14 guys with 1 AoE attack steamhappy:

If you have any mods installed you might want to check those. Some out of date mods can cause this.

I know I recently ran into an issue with an old banner/sign mod that made some NPC do like 500 damage an attack.

Simply disable all the mods, then load one, attakc the spiders, then another one til you find the one causing the issue.

Spiders haven't given me much of a problem, but Beak Things seem more dangerous than they used to.

Their AoE attack leaves half my squad notably wounded by the time we kill it.

Never had any mods in Kenshi, so it's not my case, but it's not really important - it was one battle, all battles with spiders after this one was fine. There are several possible explanations why this happened but none of them should affect normal gameplay anyway (I still think it's just was worst possible enemies to save on ground + changes for them in patch, shouldn't affect any freshly generated spider). As for mods - not like I have something against them but mods during EA and after usually means that no one will care if you have any bug in your game etc etc, i prefer to use them when things a bit more stable. ( actually I just didn't found any mod even remotely interesting to me)

what armor did you had? I found spiders very evil for my Huve soldiers becasue they can't wear helmets and get some serious trouble with those getting hit.

I still wodner why spiders attack us, because after they are finshed they mostly run away.

your armor is "bad".

You need good heavy armor because they are doing cut damage. I had a high level guy get hit in the chest by a blood spider in the swamp, and his health went from 100 to 10.

This was while wearing a high quaility leather turttleneck and high quaility assassian rags. This guy has 75 in toughness.

His blackend chain mail + samuari armor, the damage would have been 0.

I suspect that spider damage is cut damage, so blunt armor will not help you. so you will have to change your kit based on the eco system and the enemies found inside.

I found HQ armoured rags chest + legs and a good helmet did decently dropping damage form 90s to 20s in most slots.

It isn't as good as HQ plate but it should do fine, I personally hate the combat reductions of samurai.

it is a mixed bag. I like the look of the samurai armor, so i mostly go with that.

The trick is to give them a weapon to offset the combat modifier. Also the 100% for the helmet is VERY important, as a 200 damage blow or higher to the head is instant death, and i have seen that happen with very unlucky hits on 90% coverings.

In large groups, heavy armor is devestating, but slow

Thats why I actually stopped running with any stick warriors, I have had spiders kill them outright pretty easy with two 80hits to the head. I really feel they should have some kind of base small resistance to make up for missing three slots of armour.

they should just get racial armor, how hard would it be to make a helmet of a different shape?
I dunno.....

This sorta explains why they are only found naturally in two places in the game: the vain where the water is acid, and the fog where they are deranged cannibals.

So it might just be that they are weak, and in a nicer time they did not have to worry about oneshot hits to the head.

I tend to agree that some balancing need to be done on Hivers. The warriors at least, since they have lots of penalties, and are specialized in combat, yet they are a liability due to their lack of armor. Princes and workers are not made for combat, so that's fine IMO. They suit others roles, and suit them just fine.
At least the Skeleton have more bonuses to make up for it (can't be eaten, walk instead of swimming, don't need food...), and they have 1more armor slot.
