No sleeping bag.
Started a new game with freadom seekers, I checked 5 cities but no one is selling sleeping bags.

No. You use hemp to craft it. You just place it when you “build” it

No, you place it, then add the raw materials, and build it. The raw materials in the case of the camping bed would be fabrics.Thats exactly how everything in the game is made, except the camping bed. Wouldnt it be corny if you used a house to build a house? Thats why building a sleeping bag with a sleeping bag is silly.

It might make sense if every other crafting item in the game was the exact same way, but its not that way. The sleeping bag stands out like a sore thumb. It doesnt fit. One of these is not like the others...

because sleeping bags are not that easy to find, but fabrics are. In fact, I have yet to ever find a sleeping bag at any store. But I find fabrics everywhere, all the time. Thats what makes the sleeping bag thing even more annoying.

Used to be able to go anywhere and buy 2 fabrics right on day one and go out and place a bed on the ground. It made sense. it was logical, it was simple. It was natural. It fit. It made zero sense to change it.

I dunno, if I could FIND a sleeping in any store that sells fabrics as commonly as fabrics I might not have an issue with it. But I never find them, so its a problem.

They don’t sell them at the materials stores. They sell them at the travel stores. They really aren’t at all hard to find. Shidan listed some locations in the first reply.

Well thats nice, but I still havent found any. I have stopped looking actually because i have since built a bse and a house, researched a regular bed, which is made with 4 fabics and a building material. Funny, I would think it should be made out of 2 sleeping bags.

its made into a sleeping bag so you do not accidentally use the materials in crafting.
it also does not auto ditch, unlike cloth. unless your crafting bandages then that person will auto ditch it to the med crate. but thats just a ditching bug.

Did anyone ever accidentally make a camping bed? Im not sure what this auto ditching thing is. never heard of it or experienced it.

its part of the game. so your people ditch resources into the proper storage.
you can turn it on in the AI tab.

Oh I see, I just use auto hauling. That feature is new to me. But either way, I still dont see how that stops you from making a camping bed(with fabrics), which you wouldnt use unless you were traveling, and not in your base doing jobs.

because its easier to just have the camp-bed. its 1 item. and not everything stacks in your inventory or backpacks.
not to mention, when you dismantle it, it gives everything back. unlike using cloth, as it only gives 1/2 back.

edit
If you are intent on wanting to make it using cloth, you can make a Mod for it.

Check out ruined towns with buildings in Bast, Old Village north of Heft, Free Settlement south of Brink, Expedition 5, etc, they always have free sleeping bags in their barrels.

Maybe I'll find to revert that. Or I'll just make one for it.

I have never had a problem finding sleeping bags. Adventurer shops, boot shops, medical shops, etc all seem to have them. Heft and Sho-Battai should both have them. Spring. Mourn. Black Scratch. World's End. Drifter's Last. Shark. Flats Lagoon. Spring. Waystations. The Flotsam safehouse. The fishing village. Holy Nation boot shops (I never go to Holy Nation so I don't remember which towns have boot shops, but they sell em too). They're all over the place.

The size sucks and is too big though. Takes up WAAAY to much inventory space.

That said, still use Mercenary Tent and Sleeping Bags where practical for my guys.
