Organ Trail: Director's Cut

Organ Trail: Director's Cut

Ok, maybe not broken...
[Edit]

But very very clunky. I finaly had some time to try and figure out the controls. I think maybe you should at least consider changing the description from "draw lines" to "click and drag". But yea, it's still needlessly convaluted. There must be thousends of zombie shooting flash games where you just point wherever the mouse is. Maybe you think that's too stereotypical but at least it works. I find it hard to emerse myself in a game when I am constantly fighting the controls.

[Edit]

You know, I bought this game today because I really enjoyed the flash game but then when I get to the shooting sections they are nigh unplayable! How hard is it to have the guy point at the mouse? At first I though you had to have the mouse behind your character, so you'd have to estimate your aim, but half the time it seems to reverse left and right and half the time it doesn't? This is incredibly frustrating.

Apparently this is supposed to make the game difficult. If you want to vary the difficulty you can give the shots a variance based on a gun skill. Where the angle of the shot is determined by a test. You already have a shooting training feature. How about letting us use the keyboard only for the action sections? Have the dotted line always be there and use the A and D for turning instead of strafe.

Some people here have suggested that just having the guy shoot at where your mouse is pointing would make the game too easy.... Firstly, I don't really buy that and secondly, I don't care even if it dose, I want to be able to control the game. Good controls are fundamental part of a game. Nothing destroyed my enjoyment of a game worse that having to fight the controls. Feel free to dock my points.

I lol'd. I can tell the lack of 360 no scope headshots is bothering you.

I don't even have a 360.

Like I said in my first post, there are better ways to make the game harder than to make the controls suck. How about they make the mouse pointer invisible during the shooting scenes so you just have to go by the dotted line. And just have the dotted line rotate relative to the X or Y value of the mouse (so it would be like rotating a dial). There, you haven't got a direct line on the zombies AND the controls are intuitive. Geez there are heaps of better ways they could have done this.

I can hear the facepalms all across the internet now...

In all seriousness though, I think there's something wrong with your game. My aiming doesn't get switched or anything like that. I have noticed sometimes during a shooting section I'll have to double click for the first shot and the aiming is a bit too difficult at long range but those issues are at least consistent enough to be playable. You might want to reinstall the game.

What wouldn't make it playable is making a and d rotate your character during the shooting minigames. If they did that I would demand a refund. If you want to see how bad of an idea that is there are games that use that mechanic and all the ones I played SUCKED.

The aiming is really awful, and most people will agree to this. There's just some fanboys around here that take that as an insult to the whole game, and get really, really defensive over it. It's a great game, don't get me wrong, but the controls are -really- awkward. If they'd based them around how Oregon Trail did it (which would have made sense, considering this is based on Oregon Trail), it'd be fine.

The controls were originally designed for ios and Android. If you notice in the beginning it says "draw a line where you want to shoot". This works well with a touchscreen, but really didn't turn out so well on PC.

By the way, I'm not seeing the option to toggle fullscreen/resolution and input settings. It should come up before loading the game but somehow it isn't. Anyone else having this problem?

Well yea, it was originally on mobile devices. Movement was with tapping the destination and firing with the accuracy of a sausage. I guess part of the charm is in the awkward controls.

To be honest, I've played this on my PC and my Samsung Galaxy S. I prefer the PC version. The controls are just so much more accurate and movement is far better executed. It's never the less one of my favourite Android games.

The shooting mechanics are awkward at first, but you figure it out over time. Draw a line from behind your target towards you. You'll get the hang of it after a few shots. As far as resolution and whatnot, alt-enter will switch between fullscreen and windowed.

The shooting controls being what they are, I really can't recommend this game as it is. The slingshot mechanics just don't carry over to PCs very well. To the people saying poor controls make it a better game, I have a bridge to sell you.

Please stop defending the shooting mechanics ... they are inverted and slow and terrible ... yeah know what else would rock face? RUNNING!

It's so bad I sometimes just stack up on med kits and just run around grabbing stuff before a zombie gets me.

I think they work just fine. Too many people get used to being able to perfectly aim in modern games - now when it's made more difficult, they whine about it.

The controls are not inherently terrible. I've learned them through my first playthrough and can shoot fine. Either adapt and learn or just leave it be - it's not terrible just because you don't like how it's done.

This ground is too soft! I wish more of my bones were broken!

In my first playthrough I struggled but by the finale I was able to accurately get a zombie from across the viewable area with snap shots. It only takes practice. The idea is to require a retraining of what would be a familiar concept. Oregan Trail wasn't a casual experience and it makes sense that Organ Trail isn't either. Welcome to video games. Sometimes you lose and then you get better.
