Other games like this one?
Anyone else have recommendations for other games like this one -- highly atmospheric, cinematic platformers? I've played the Oddworld games already, and while I enjoy them, they don't capture the same bleak feeling as this game for me. I'd really love to play something in the style of Another World with the same tone and sci-fi aesthetic.

Any games that anyone can recommend? Thanks.

Flash Back was the following game of the same publisher but other developer. It plays the same but has another story (still good story) and atmosphere. But it seems to be the closest to this experience if you put aside the sequel.

Heart of the Alien (the unfamous sequel of Another World) was made exclusively for Sega CD by another publisher and developers. And it was declared as non-canon by Eric Chahi after release as Interplay did a bad job. Graphic design and amtosphere was still very similar. To play it you have to use emulators.

If you want to follow Eric Chahi, then Heart of Darkness would be his next work that is a platformer.

It's so hard for me to think of these as playing the same. Flashback has tile based movement, inventory management, a height mechanic for gunplay, a momentary shield mechanic, different enemy types with their own behaviours, general platforming, and a whole quest system on Europa. It doesn't have immersive bespoke gameplay sequences like Another World or the kind of structured pacing that Another World has.

I love both games, but they feel so different to me.

Thanks for the recs! I bought Flashback and The Way for $2.50 USD right before the summer sale ended. Curious to see how they play.

I really appreciated The Way. In my mind, it feels like it sits halfway between the original Flashback and Another World.

Try Heart of Darkness. Its also a Eric Chahi project. You can play it in PS1 and PC.
