Star Crux issues - loot rarity not increasing

Hi all,
I seem to be having an issue with the star Crux since the update, if I allocate points the loot drop rate and rarity for some reason decreased. If I don't allocate any points, I get more drops and rare items, however if I increase the points I only seem to pick up commons from elites and bosses.

May be me misunderstanding the concept, but doesn't seem right - any one else having this issue or can educate me?

the obvs answer is - could be RNG , and/or small sample size

but anecdotally ive also not noticed more bigger/better loot drops on more darkness runs

That's right, it doesn't work as it should. I've had my luck drop from a coffin with a mythic item. The Star Crux rarity option doesn't seem to work properly.
