Cloud save wiped?
So i was playing on my steam deck and it said it wasn't able to sync the cloud files, so i reinstalled it and then tried starting it up and it asked me if i wanted to use my cloud save (8 hours of progress with warrior and mage with all their currently available perks unlocked plus a lot of gear i'd collected over the 8 hours)... I chose yes i want to use my cloud save over my local save, however when i started the game it was a completely new game. So i went back to my desktop and tried playing it on here and my save here had also been wiped.

Did they do a demo reset or did my cloud save somehow wipe despite me choosing the cloud save not the empty local save when reinstalling on my steam deck??

I'm confused because normally i've never had an issue like this with cross/cloud save on my steam deck before. And selecting the cloud save should have been fine... but it seems like the cloud save was also empty??

Hello.

Yeah, that sounds like a bug - another steam deck player reported something similar. Really sorry that this happened. I don't have a steam deck, nor do we support linux officially so I haven't come across this myself and can't really reproduce it on windows.

I'll be borrowing a Steam Deck from a friend and hope to fix this prior to release. Again, apologies. Will update the thread when I fix the issue.

Is it possible that save file read and write logic uses inconsistent capitalization? That could explain lack of symptoms on Windows and Mac that will typically use case-insensitive file systems

No worries and thanks for the reply. It's not a huge deal and there's so many updates since the demo that maybe it was for the best to start over fresh anyway... It's not like i mind hugely it was just a bit disappointing i couldn't continue from where i left off you know? Having to play through the early waves again to gear up and have the other characters arrive... but it's still fun and the updates to the full release make some nice changes so it's cool.

Best of luck with it all, looking forwards to seeing what else comes down the line.

I don't know much about linux but i know that it also is case sensitive having just had to manually add a "steam" folder to my 1TB microSD i added to the steam deck... if i used the automatic library add tool, it created a folder called "Steam" which didn't work, or "SteamLibrary" which also completely didn't work (maybe fix that Valve?? it's been known about for months)... I could see something similar being the issue perhaps, though it's just weird how it was working fine, and the saves were syncing to the steam cloud from both my PC and Steam deck, until something went wrong with the cloud save and instead of using either PC or Deck save, it just wiped BOTH saves back to zero on both devices xD

Yes, my point is that if games code is not consistent with how it capitalizes the save file paths - it will work just fine on Mac/Windows (case-insensitive file systems), but will exhibit the problem that you're having on Linux
