20 Min till Dawn is much more like VS than it is this. It also has theoretically uncapped build variance (practical level cap of 40 means you won't see it on any half-decent build). I know it has some planned rework to the meta-progression in the near future, but overall is a complete package.
I do like all 3 games, but they scratch slightly different itches. VS trends towards homogenization, 20MTD has extreme character variance, but builds ultimately tend towards the same 3-4 broad sets on higher difficulties. This game has pretty intense build variation due to the gods being semi-random (alteration rolls can let you try and roll a different god than the one you're selected on, unlike reroll which randomizes the current god's offerings).
Also, VS and 20MTD are both "complete" as they stand. This game is rather blatently only about 60-70% complete.
20 Minutes is pretty solid despite having less depth than this game and is still occasionally getting updates in between the dev working on a much more serious sequel.
- VS if you just want to get addicted lol (also check out Magic Survival, the Android game that Poncle quoted as their - rather obvious - inspiration.)
- 20MTD if you enjoy simple, moderate action to an atmosphere that's easy on your senses
- Death Must Die if you enjoy collecting loot and building your characters Diablo style with a skill system and overarching story line comparable to Hades'
