Is there max skill points for each character or will I get enough to get every skill to max lvl?

36. You get enough to get 1 final skill on each tree. Its balanced this way, and allows for a few different distinct builds per character.

36 unfortunately a little lower than it should be i would prefer 45-50. would make it better balanced for the difficulty increase of the game

With the 36 they give and how strong gear is, the game would be a faceroll if they gave more. Some builds could certainly use the extra oomph but I think thats an entirely separate issue

the issue with the 36 is the filler nodes you have to get to progress since you have to spend 5 on each row to get to the next row. Besides 45-50 is a little under or slightly over half of the "max possible to fill tree entirely"

It's worth remembering that there will be more acts, with even more difficult stuff.

I'm wondering if the current tree accounts for this or if they'll expand it / give more points later.

They could give more points but only allow one last row perk for the time being.

I'd say 41 would be pretty fair to start with, personally. Base 35 points for the core tree, 5 extra for filler that you'd just pass up on to keep the build you want, and a final point for the "ultimate" skill. They'd need a limiter on the final skills, though.

the game is easy enough with 36 points... would be nice to have more points for more customization but they could nerf it a bit more... i just got the game and already beat act 3 with little difficulty ... heck... act 1 was harder because i had to farm the skill points and get some gear. act 3 gear rares and up is op as hell XD .
40 would be fine probably as long as they capped the bottom row to 1.

2nd and 3rd to last rows also have some really strong stuff that can lead to a lot of nerf hammering ...
with normal 36 points you already can take much more than what you really need , more points and we return to the "act 1" era , when you could only select 1 signature passive out of a selection
Honestly, maybe they COULD make it so that you can unlock every single skill and max it; like, let's say that you need 100, you still get a few per boss beaten, but it's capped at 20 once you've only beaten act 1, 40 once you've beaten act 2, etc.

Maybe it would actually ease the balancing, cause if I'm already able to have 36 at act 2, why should I STILL be at 36 once I try to beat act 5? Like, if people complain that an act is TOO easy instead of too hard, I at least think that it won't generate rage. Maybe a bit of boredom, sure, but no rage, imo.
