Edit: Binding was removed! Yay!
Anti-features are great, yeah?
Books are just for lore and jokes.
The bookshelf is for you to store them separately from your equippable items.
Edit: Lore items can now give a stat buff if you have a certain character-specific talent.
Except that it doesn't really explain it. It's just a note that says the note is a gift? Like what is the point of it? Is it used for something later? Does it have a purpose? If it's just for flavor you could have just said that or not said anything at all but thanks for going the extra mile to be smug on the Internet.
That's not "sure fire" if some books can only be obtained via places other than the bookshelves found during runs; we already have one such scroll found in another location, and the devs might add more as the game is developed.
The bookshelf in the camp is the present, as explained in the scroll itself.
