Where are the spells?
I'm playing the Sorceress, I get buffs to my spells from gear and level ups but there are no spells in the game? Only attacks, autocasts, passives etc. What are the spells exactly? Or where

I take it you've never played Vampire Survivors, or a Bullet Hell/Reverse Bullet Hell type game? Or just a Roguelite Survivor? The spells you choose each time you level ARE the spells. You can combine them together however you want and find builds that work for you. And you don't have to play the game with "autocast" always on. It's actually better if you don't keep autocast on. You can move faster when not attacking.

I've played most of them, and was one of the best Brotato players, thanks. The game doesnt explain what spells are, it does explain other types of abilities, such as attacks, autocasts, passives, this and that.

For example, the basic attack of a class is not a spell, did you know that? even though the Sorcerer literally casts a fireball, you'd think the Knight uses attacks and the Sorcerer spells but no. There are shrines which offer buffs to either Attacks or Spells. The game needs to introduce the Spell tag to abilities that are spells.

And yeah I figured that about autocast. Sorcerer is a really bad class because while attacking you have no movement speed. And movement speed is king in this game, I've noticed.

Anyway, I had decent fun for a few hours. Game needs a lot of work, including ability to start focusing on builds instead of every class just getting everything, but they got something good going on here for sure.

They definitely need to add more tags to skills, with the main ones being whether it's an Attack or Spell, imo.

you can tell looking at the dmg numbers when hitting enemies

white:attack
yellow:spell
orange: status/other?

most stuff that isnt your main attack will be a spell, including autocasts and procs

Everything not a basic attack is likely a spell. Devs probably figured people would assume so and didn't bother to tag them all.

I don't understand what you're even talking about. Every time you level you get a choice of 3 abilities. And they all have a description that tells you what they do. And on some of them you can hold Alt to get further info.

I don't know what you are talking about when you say you don't know which ones are the spells... They all have a tag on them that says whether it's a passive or not. You have a base attack, and then you have things like meteor,Chain Lightning,Lightning bolt,Plague Ravens, etc. It's all very basic and easy to understand.

Thanks for the info, that's good to know!

Yeah I see what they do. But since none of them are tagged as spells, and some of them are tagged as attacks, its confusing. Are you being obtuse on purpose? You would imagine a spell is an active ability, not a passive. All attacks are active abilities, meaning theyre cast. Are all passives spells too? Is everything thats not tagged an attack a spell? Do damage over time like burning and cursed benefit from increased spell damage? None of it makes sense because the game lacks a spell tag.

Though I can totally see how the lack of a "Spell" tag can be confusing at the outset, the hover text for the spell-related stats on the left-hand character stat sheet (B by default on keyboard) does a pretty good job IMO of explaining what they affect. For example, Spell Damage is annotated as "Damage increase for your god blessings, dashes, summons, item spells and other non-attack abilities." (Compare with Attack Damage's annotation as "The damage you deal with your weapon attacks.")

Ok so if you get Burning on your weapon attack, that DOT is affected by Attack Damage, not Spell Damage?

Yea so everything that isn't your primary attack is a spell. There is attack dmg and spell dmg and that is it. No need trying to over complicate it.

If you read the tooltip for burning the debuff just does % dmg to the enemy it doesn't scale at all.

Confused by this thread. Like every single additional ability you get says "Spell" in the tags, I'm not sure how people are missing it.

There's no Spell tag. Show screenshot to prove me wrong
