Go ahead and build yourself a nice fancy Workshop or Library or whatnot.
Then at the bottom of your screen there will be a tab with 4 squares labeled "logistics", go there.
The first tab that should be defaulted is Prison Labor, along with a white canvas of your prison with green rooms (your work rooms). Different work rooms will have different space requierments for the maximum prisoner job limit of 20, either way, click on the room you want prisoners to work in until you get to the Max Job limit or until you are satisfied.
Now you need to set a time for your inmates to work. The best times I've seen have been right after Eating, Yard, or a stretch of Freetime. Try to avoid putting Work right after Lockup, or Sleep times since this will lead to a riot worthy of the front page on the newspaper.
If the said job is simple (cleaning, laundry, mail room, shop), then your boys can get right to work once their time comes around. If its a bit complex (workshop, library, cooking), then you'll need the reqiured training programs for them. Library needs the basic schooling, Cooking and Workshop needs a safety program, and to further your inmates career in the workshop, you'll need a carpentry class for that.
I think thats it, maybe, idk... maybe you didnt need all this but, hey, there it is.
Also shops are strange right now, if your shop doesnt seem to get customers, make sure to put that wooden window thingy on a wall, and check to see if you have any blue crates, for some reason if there are no blue crates in the shop, it wont work, so just dump all the other crates until you get a blue one in stock.
1. u have to build a shop room
minimum requirements
- indoors
- 4x4 square
- table
- shop self
- shop front (this must be looking to an outdoor area) (only one front per shop at the moment, i think this will be fixed to version a35 refering to my bugreport http://bugs.introversion.co.uk/view.php?id=9256)
2. u have to assign workers in the logistic tabs
3. the shop has to be open (means working hour)
4. the prisoner has to be freetime (so i recommend to set some Prisoners to freetime, while another security level should set to work on regime (but prisoners at worktime who arent working also would have free time)
5. the prisoner needs money (he will get that by working)
6-. the prisoner needs a need, that can be satisfied by the shop
7, the shop should be the closest square to satisfy the need
