There are a few less quality of life features. But the tradeoff is a functional prison that won't be affected every time Paradox releases an update that further breaks the base game in some way.
The bugs usually start happening when building larger prisons.
Bugs I've encountered:
The yard saying it's not enclosed behind walls and doors even though it definitely is.
Dead bodies not being transferred to the morgue for a long time.
Doors that stop working for some reason.
Canteens that wont be used until manually assigning prisoners.
All these bugs are easily dealt with, but still annoying.
This could be a bug, but one way is to check the fencing. I was playing on island and one part of my fence was gone and I never noticed it until a prisoner tried to escape through and got shot by a sniper.
Sometimes it said this if I "Lock Open" the only door (leads into prison).
2018 is the last "out" version by introversion. it's close to the best possible experience.
