If own just the base game, is it relatively bug free?
Hi All,

Haven't played since the game changed developers, if I want to play just the base game (I don't own any dlcs), is the base game affected by the newer bugs that have been introduced since the dlcs have came out?

There are a few less quality of life features. But the tradeoff is a functional prison that won't be affected every time Paradox releases an update that further breaks the base game in some way.

there is definitely less bugs because bugs relating new items/mechanics are unavailable, but it ultimately depends on how bugprone your playstyle is

I own the basegame only. The only noticeable "large-ish" bug that I know of, right now, is that prisoners who are serving Solitary, have the ability to sometimes leave their cell and wander around the prison (they are in shackles/handcuffs). While they are roaming, their timer to serve in solitary freezes/pauses. They usually return to their solitary cell during the "Sleep" cycle, but may start roaming again after sleep ends.

People are reporting various staff refusing to do various tasks, unknown which DLC this comes with

Kind of. Many people have problems with the trays. Sometimes it helps if you build more kitchens close to the problem areas.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I also have the base game only and I do experience some annoying bugs sometimes.
The bugs usually start happening when building larger prisons.

Bugs I've encountered:
The yard saying it's not enclosed behind walls and doors even though it definitely is.
Dead bodies not being transferred to the morgue for a long time.
Doors that stop working for some reason.
Canteens that wont be used until manually assigning prisoners.

All these bugs are easily dealt with, but still annoying.

This could be a bug, but one way is to check the fencing. I was playing on island and one part of my fence was gone and I never noticed it until a prisoner tried to escape through and got shot by a sniper.

Sometimes it said this if I "Lock Open" the only door (leads into prison).

Thanks for the info everyone! So are there any base game (fan) bugfix patches to install?
john2376 Jul 8, 2021 @ 4:52am
Myeah sure it seems bug-free as far as I personally could say, though it sometimes gets slow due to a working memory/RAM memory leakage, should that occur, just save, quit and re-start the game.

No it is not. I have the base game no dlc no mods, there are major bugs that have persisted for years. Although you can subscribe to the anniversary edition on the beta branch, which is the version of the game as it was sold to Paradox/Double Eleven. That version is bug free.

there are 2 anniversary editions in the beta tab, 2015 and 2018? I'm guessing I want 2018?

Yeah that's the right one. You'll get to play the game as the original creators made it, without the extra content that Double Eleven made for it. They have added a lot of cool things and QOL since, but as you've seen in these forums the current version can be very buggy. Would be worth trying both, some people seem less affected by the jankiness :P

yeah, 2015 is the very first "out" version of the game. it's probably very barebones but neat to look into if you want to see what it was like.

2018 is the last "out" version by introversion. it's close to the best possible experience.
