Lockpicking puzzle
This is seemingly impossible to complete, I've followed 2 video walkthroughs and tried to make the bumps on the wire exactly the same as in the videos and it still won't do anything. Is the solution changed randomly for each player or what? Also, what exactly am I supposed to do in the first place? The game gives you absolutely no instructions of any sort, not even what the goal of the puzzle is.

You have to push the silver pins up, till they are on one line at the bottom. The golden pins have to be at the bottom line:

Do it like in my screenshot and do the same for every pin.

This was seriously easy, you're just doing something wrong.

Thank you!

This puzzle drove me crazy. Took me about 2 hours. You can't leave the scene or save at this point. I really liked this game but I really hope there are no more puzzles like this in future chapters.

Its a bid hard. Would have been nice if the inspector said something to himself like "hmm i think i need to mack the pin with the silver line" or something.

reminded me of the lockpicking in risen 2

I've copied this picture exactly and still doesn't work for me.

That's because that picture is not the solution, it's just a demonstration.

You know how keys work, right? It's common sense man.
In the puzzle, you have to push the silver block out of the hole, WHILE keeping the golden block inside the keyhole - do that for every cylinder. If the golden cylinder is pushed up too high, it sticks out of the hole, and the key can't turn.

It's logical. If you seriously can't get it, I'm suprised you've managed to turn on the computer without electrocuting yourself.

I can't figure it out either. I do have common sense too. this is an illogical puzzle. he doesn't say anything about how to do it. I have worked at it for 3 hours and can't get it.

What certain people who are being incredibly rude don't seem to understand is that the game gives you no hints or clues as to how the puzzle itself is supposed to work. While the notion of moving the tumblers up is easy to grasp, there is NO indication as to how you influence the wire.

It was a lot like the Shuffleboard game, in that I actually figured out how to do stuff by sheer accident. I had originally been just clicking on the chips before realizing I had to pull back on them like pinball stick. Likewise, I had no idea how to even MOVE the wire until I'd experimented with it a few times.

A computer you push a button and it comes on, the wire shows no visual cue as to how you interact with it. Maybe think before you insult someone.

Good LORD this puzzle was annoying. Not hard. Just annoying to figure out. -_-

It only took me 2-3 minutes to solve but as others have already said why didn't we get any hints or rather tooltips since a basic "user manual" is not a cheat as to what to do? O_o

Te fact of how iffy the whole system was(no lead on where to pull, nor somewhat defined borders of sections) is not a challenge, but a chore so I'm kinda dissapointed, but at least they try to mix things up so that's still a plus.

as a puzzle it is super-annoying unless you've actually picked a lock before (in real life or in a game). i have no clue how locks work, it's not exactly common knowledge. anyway, if you get what you're actually supposed to do (NoXPhasma explains it above) it takes a little fidgeting but definitely not more than 25-30 minutes to get the bars to align. also, you can exit at any time by pressing the escape button on your keyboard (but then of course you have to start the puzzle over again).

I do have to say, after turning to different places for help with this puzzle, I am shocked at how ignorant some people can be in a discussion. Everyone's mind works differently. I am a geek but my boyfriend is a mechanic, creative and just a genius at fixing things. If you can't understand that, you are a very immature human being. What are you guys answering, like 15?

Such a nice story destroyed but a ton of bugs. 3 important tips to avoid deadlocks in chapter 1:
1) Ask the doctor on the ship medics cabin for the bullet first, otherwise he will go to sleep, you dont have the bullet and are stuck. Only way: reload an earlier savegame
2) Opening the cabin of Legrand with the wire: there are some guides who call this easy but don`t explain what to do. With my "configuration" I was only able to pull the wire completely or push it completely into the cylindar. I could not put it in a few cm and put it out, this helps a lot in all walkthrough videos. But the clue is following: between the golden and the silver cilyndars you have to leave a small gap of 2mm. So gold does not have to touch silver, but you have to push gold so high that it nearly matches in all 6 cylindars. You do not have to escape this "minigame", if you have the cylindars correctly it will get you out automatically.
Don`T get confused if you hear a "click" and it does not happen anything. This means you are on the right way, but 1 or 2 cylindars are too close to each other.
3) In chapter one you can miss so many details that might be important, I just can`T understand the developers. If you enter transport wagon quite early you miss the missing prints in the director`S room, you miss the money case of the baroness, you miss the butler in wagon 1 and you miss a talking to the doctor about his gloves. You even miss the signing of the book by Mrs P. and I read sth. of a radio and a broken "wire" there. What does a developer think if all this is not important?
