Graphics Issues, Low FPS, Please Advise
Perhaps this has something to do with when Blood Dragon was being developed, but it's not running very well at all. Can anyone explain to me why optimal settings for this game when I go into video quality settings are all listed as low, when my machine runs Far Cry 3 at mostly high settings at around or above 40 FPS? I tried matching the same settings that I have for the base game on Blood Dragon, and it ran at 15 FPS. Yes, my drivers are up to date, I have GeForce Experience for that. Like I said, maybe the latest updates/drivers that improve performance for Far Cry 3... don't apply to Blood Dragon?

I turned down the GPU max buffered frames to 1, and v-sync to off.

Maybe I should turn GPU buffer to zero, and turn off Alpha to coverage?

Will turning off DirectX11 affect much?

Also, turning on Anti-aliasing for this game is absolutely horrible... in most other games I can run 8/16 times anti-aliasing with little hits to framerate in exchange for smoothness... does that have something to do with the kind of anti-aliasing used? I don't remember MSAA being this taxing to the system, or do other games use FXAA?

If any of you guys can give me suggestions as to what I can do to at least run this game smoothly and/or so it at least looks decent, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Of course, my specs:
Graphics: Geforce GTX 675M
CPU: intel i7 3630QM CPU @ 2.4 GHz
8GB RAM
256GB ATA Samsung SSD PM83 SCSI (solid state drive, love it)
My display's native resolution is 1600x900.

Set post FX to low, it does virtually nothing and it's a bloody joke. Boosts your FPS way up.

You're running it on a laptop so there isn't a whole lot you can do.

I would for sure try turning off DX11 and see if that helps.

You should have no problem running this game with your setup. I have a Alienware M14x laptop with an i5 and gt555m and I am able to run it with medium settings, post proc. low, alpha off, v sync off, 2x anti-alising and 1240x720 at 40+ fps. Make sure you white list the game in the nvidia control panel and disable your virus protection when you play.

On my 670 I was getting about 45 fps no matter what the settings were. I was getting no change between low and ultra settings and dx9 and dx11. Changing MSAA to 0 tripled my dx9 framerate though on ultra settings. Soooo try just disabling AA and that worked for me. I like lots of AA in my games but even 16x should not have close to that big of an impact on framerate. Hopefully disabling it works for you though.

Thanks Jasta. I actually used to have the same computer as you (i5, GT55M)... I replaced my M14 with this M17x. I'll try to set all those things to off, but how do I "white list" the game in the nvidia control panel? I haven't really used the nVidia control panel, what does it allow me to do?

Also thanks to the rest of you for your suggestions, you're all very helpful. :)

An update for you guys that have been so kind as to help me out... the game is now running beautifully at 60FPS with little to no framerate dips, with almost all settings on high to ultra, v-sync on and 1 frame GPU buffering. I added it to a list on the nVidia control panel (still not too sure what it does lol) and refreshed my games list on GeForce Experience so it showed up, and now it's running like a champ, when just the other night it felt like playing it on an 80s CRT display... in retrospect, it actually added a bit of authenticity to it.

Thanks guys.

This helped me

I also used this link to confirm my machine is using the Nvidia as default.

Holy fricking Jesus Havermeyer Christ

My previous post was on May 14th
TWO THOUSAND THIRTEEN

How in the blazes has this thread not been deleted or something? How were you able to find it and... like... what compelled you to post here? On this over FOUR-YEAR-OLD THREAD with less than 10 comments about a FOUR-YEAR-OLD GAME?!

I mean, sorry... you're obv trying to be helpful. My overpriced pre-fab Alienware garbage is loooooooong gone. I've built my own rig now. :steamhappy:

I'm just amazed... this is by far the largest gap in time between two posts on a thread that I've ever seen in the Steam forums. Epic thread necro; dude. And respect for your attempt to help in spite of this being a prehistoric issue :B1::B1::B1:

For people having issues, what worked for me is changing it to borderless windowed. I can now play on max settings at 4K with no issues 👍🏻 Also if you're having trouble aiming look up the "negative mouse acceleration" fix - helped a ton.

2021 here. I'm pretty sure I've seen reptiloid Adolf H. riding on a dinosaur. Might have been a movie, though.
