open folder: (Steam folder)\steamapps\common\Far Cry 3\bin. if you don't know where it is, alternative way to go here: right click on game in steam, properties/options, "local files" (or "local cache") tab, click "view local files" (first button), double-click "bin". Delete (or rename) "FC3UpdaterSteam.exe" (you can get this file back by verifying cache)
(if you can't, try killing process with that name in task manager). Copy farcry3.exe, rename a copy to "FC3UpdaterSteam.exe" launch the game normally
Hey there,
Just checking in to see how you're getting on, as a CD key shouldn't be required to play.
Further to the above steps, could you please also try verifying the game's files[ubi.li] and let us know how you get on?
Thank you!

Steam thinks I have played blood dragon for over 100 minutes but I’ve just been trying to find this game key/activation code.
Seems to be a common problem.
Thanks
Can I just check, when you try to launch the game are you logged into your linked Steam and Ubisoft account as they should automatically link?
Any trouble, just let us know.

Anyway the question I am asking is really super direct, this should be straight forward. Where do I find the “activation key” that Ubisoft connect is asking for?
Thanks

above linked article says:
THERE IS NO CD KEYS option under MANAGE
Key is now distributed in form of DLC? How does that work?

WHERE IS THE KEY???
"Solution" from post #1 doesnt work since i cant even activate the key in Ubisoft Connect - so the platform doesnt know i own the game...
*edit
So after fiddling around and reading for 3 hours, now suddenly out of the blue (i didnt really change anything) the key is automatically registered to Ubi connect and FC3 Blood Dragon is finally in my Ubish*t library.
So if anyone else has this problem, i suggest u log out of Ubi connect, restart steam, launch game again and see if that helps. IF that doesnt help also verify game files again in steam, restart steam and try again.
@Ubish*t i suggest u rework ur help pages since the manage CD Key thing seem to be OUTDATED clap clap
Thank you for the update.
I'm glad that the issue has been resolved. I'll also pass your feedback on to the team.
If you have any other questions, feel free to update this thread.

Imagine that you have to provide proof of purchase to ubisoft support that includes a CD KEY. FC3 BD use to have one that you had to put in and could view anytime. Even if you don't need the key anymore for activation YOU MAY NEED IT FOR SUPPORT PURPOSES.
One thing to note. I have tried re-validating. Every time I do I get 53 files failed to validate and it automatically downloads them again. This happens everytime I try to validate the files. Is this related to the CD key problem?
To me it looks like the hashes haven't been updated.
A CD key is not required to play as the game should be automatically bound to your Steam and Ubisoft accounts when launched.
If you're being asked for a key and have already tried verifying the game files, then please follow these further steps;
Firstly, please make sure you're launching Steam and Ubisoft Connect with admin privileges, by following these steps[ubi.li].
Then, please, navigate to the Ubisoft Game Launcher "cache" folder, by default located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\cache
Open the cache folder and move the "ownership" folder to a safe location.
Once you have backed up that folder, delete the "cache" folder.
After deleting the cache folder, please verify the game files within Steam.
If an issue is found, you will be given the option to Repair, click Repair. After repairing the issue, please verify the game again until no issues are found.
When this has been completed, try launching the game again.
If you continue to have issues beyond this, please use the links above to open a case with us where we can investigate further.
Thank you!

That's all well and good however lets say you ever lose access to ubi connect and need support such as if you lost access to your email they require 3 things from you
1. Purchase history (the big list of games that you bought) with the game in question clearly in the screenshot.
2. Receipt screenshot (order number and method of payment and all that jazz)
3. screenshot of cd key in the steam client (kinda impossible to get if ubisoft deems cd keys to be of no use anymore)
I can understand that ubisoft support needs to follow policy and all but how do you provide that with no cd keys? Blood dragon used to have one and now it is gone
This is a change made across the digital market and Steam and is not exclusive to Ubisoft titles.
We also have other sufficient means to verify player accounts, of which we will not disclose here for security purposes.
