As CaptainConundrum already said, there is only one faction, no need for more.
Screw balance, I prefer fun with unique units and structures with different faction.
But ofcourse, they made this game with the stupid eSports crowd in mind..
PA always was primarily a multiplayer game, and as such, balance is vitally important. Therefore, given the very limited budget Uber had, having only one faction was the right decision.
If it wasn't then why is there a constant stream of new videos to watch on the main menu? you know, of other players games.
BUT GTA V, Wasteland 2, Endless Legend, Titanfall, Battlefield Hardline, Battlefied 4, Van Helsing 2, Divinity: Original Sin, Sim 4, Evolve, CoD: Advanced warfighter, Stronghold Crusader 2.
to name a few PC games that have 0 streaming, youtube or Twitch support.
Yeah thank the maker for 1 faction, that's the mistake Starcraft made...Zerg, Humans, Protoss..what were they thinking. Let's not forget the moronic decision of the first Supreme Commander, their major mistake was too many factions and too many units. Those previous successful RTS had no idea what the hell they were doing. Thank God we have the success that is PA, PA can show them the error of their ways.
PS. That was sarcasm...It defeats the purpose to say it, but you know.
More factions would have been better. Different colours is all we are getting, until some skilled modders get on the case. With the low player count, the modding scene is not as busy as some other games.
A price cut would help :)
Lore and back stories is the hallmark of a good RTS, C&C, Warcraft, Total War (Historical), Sins of a Solar Empire, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes (Historical), Star trek Armada, Star Wars Empire at War...the lists goes on and on. If you're waiting for modders to add new factions and units, then the game has failed.
What is the alternative?
Maybe Etherium ...
