No friends in Friend list can't create game for friends to join?

I am confused. I am online right now with my friend but we don't show up in each others friend list. Also I can't create a public game for him to join becuase slots are empty. Whats the point of creating a lobby if you have to fill are the slots? How do I invite my friends to play with me?

What worked for me: just create a public lobby (with a password if you want) and tell your friend to join, he will find the game in the list and fill the empty slot with himself.

You can also invite friends to private matches. You will need to send a friend request with the game UI. Both need to finish the game profile from within the game. Me and my friend took some time with this same problem :)

I am having the same problem. My Dad and I have been playing each other on two different computers on multiplayer for a while with two different accounts and now we can't see each other online on the network. I checked our home network and everything is showing up but in the game menu it's like neither one of us are logged in, but we both are. I tried making a multiplayer game to see if he could just join it and it won't show up on the list of games. Tried the same thing on his computer and still the same problem. Anyone had any luck fixing this?

Ok, so its not your steam friends, its your friends through their account. It needs updated to use steam friends list.
